Hello!

Im going to deal with a mounted figure on a white metal mount. I have this idea of cutting off the legs of the horse, two of them that is, each in three parts. Drill a hole in the parts and insert one rod in each leg that goes all the way through. Soldiering the rod in place and filling the cuts with putty.

Is that a good idea? Do you guys do it differently? And what do I use to cut in the white metal without loosing to much in the cut?

Cheers

I use a junior hacksaw blade with fine teeth for cutting. Sprinkle a little talcum powder on to the blade whilst sawing to stop the blade from binding. Use superglue or araldite to bond the pins, solder will destroy the white metal, because its melting point is very close to solder.

I hope this helps?!(y)

A more complex way would be to use a circular saw blade in a dremel and cut a long trench into the length of the leg. Then you could lay a piece of brass wire into the trench, then reinstate the detail - not for the faint hearted!!(y)

Hmm

I have this figure but I do not think it needs that much of pinning. I mean I would drill in the legs as far I could go and insert the thickest brass pin I can find and that's it.
As long as the weight is well distributed on the three legs and the figure is not leaning, adding stress to the metal, I think it will be fine. Alternatively, you could add more support with some ground work.
