Superb work in the helmet and the mask and from what i see in the second row of the pictures
they can stand separately, helmet with the mask and the bust itself, amazing job Maher, it depicts
how a soldier "sees" the war far from what we use to see...
Congratulations for your progress!!!
Dimitris.
Thank you gentlemen for your kind comments, I'm really glad you've liked it... It's my pay off!
Here is the final first bust done; the work on the second one with the mask on is ongoing!
Thank you Mike for your kind comment; it was you who gave me the idea of putting a helmet on!
I think gas was not used by Germans, but the allies have used it against them during the war!
That face is just stunning. As regards gas, I am certain the western Allies didn't use it in WW2, but certainly did in WW1, I don't know about the Eastern Front though. It should be simple enough to paint the helmet in WW1 colours as worn by the original stormtroopers who caused such havoc in March 1918.

Hi Maher,
stunning lifelike and expressive sculpt.
As far as I know chemical weapons were not used in WW 2 although Winston Churchill considered the use and had no moral obstructions about their application which showed already in 1920 when the Arab and Kurdish population revolted in Mesopotamia against the British occupation.
The SS helmet in relation to a soldier being exposed to gas is quite irritating - backdating your sculpt to WW I will work better.
Cheers, Martin
Nap, Mike & Martin, thanks gentlemen for sharing your thoughts about it!
Forgive my lack of knowledge about that! It seems everyone had the gas but maybe no one used it!
I think I'll need to change the subject title to go with where my build is at this stage, as for the first bust, it is possible that the SS soldier fears something else other than the gas.. Maybe someone is pulling the trigger of a gun pointed to his head! .... (Idea of a 1:4 Dio!!!)
In the second bust, the mask I made will be on and fixed without a helmet on the head! But I can't change to WW1 at the moment, the mask is GM-30 and it was given to troops in 1930... He will depict the feeling of a soldier frightened of chemical warfare!
Hello Maher,
my opinion is that your sculpting skills are beyond doubt and this is something that has nothing to do
with the historical accuracy of the mask or the helmet (which is equally important).
Fear is something that exists in every war since every soldier faces the same truth that his life depends on the death of his enemy, this is what this bust faces, the upcoming truth. The fact that there will be no combination of the helmet and the mask makes no "history conflict" so everything is ok...
Waiting for your next update...
Dimitris.
You are seeing it almost the way it is meant to be seen... Wars, despite of all the courage and bravery shown by some of the soldiers, are full of fear... specially the fear of hopelessness!
While waiting for some materials to arrive, I've finished more 1:4 items in preparation for a bunker interior dio!
