As my imperial guard project is quite a large one with the painting stage some way off yet I thought I would keep my painting hand fresh by completing the CGS bust of the scots grey trumpeter.
The bust is sculpted by Carl Reid and produced by Graham at CGS,i must mention that both sculpting and casting is excellent, this is quite a complex piece and some careful thought is required when planning painting and assembly.
A while back I saw a photograpgh of a scots grey trumpeter with lace chevrons on his sleeves with shoulder wings also,i wanted to produce this with my piece,to complete this task I made the chevrons and wings out of magicsculp,as for historical accuracy we'll never know, but the print I have may suggest the these trumpeters did wear this jacket.

I wont go into all the history of this unit or its actions at waterloo as this has all been discussed before.the bust itself has been beautifully sculpted with lots of movement and its a real eye-catcher of a piece, probably the most technical bust I've ever painted.
The bust was set up in small sub assemblies with the head, torso, trumpet, and right hand all painted seperatley and carefully assembled on completition.
The bust was primed using Halfords grey car body primer and undercoated in the appropriate acrylic colours before finishing in oilThe crossbelt swivel has still to be attached, this I will do once I repair it,its such a small and delicate piece and I managed to break it somehow :mad::mad:.
As with all soldiers on campaign some weathering was added to add some realism to the piece.

The kit details I have listed below should anyone be interested in purchasing it :

CR08 - Trumpeter Royal North British Dragoons - (Scots Greys) - Waterloo 1815

Absolutely brilliant mate, well worth the wait. Your weathering on the figure/bust captures the conditions of the day. I'm sure Graham and Carl will be well pleased with what you have done here.

Barrie.

Super work on a complex piece Brian, he looks really well weathered to your usual trademark standard. As with all of your pieces it's a pleasure to see.
The chevrons are an interesting discussion. Till now I had not seen it but looking through, there are figures and drawings showing them. They do add to the overall effect.
My only observation, take it or leave it, is the colour of the facings. For me; navy blue base weathered up to almost grey on parts with extreme wear.
Great work Mate.
All the very best,
Keith

Nice one mate. I picked this one up from Steve Kirtley at Christmas. Glad to see one done.....and thanks, I'm going to use yours as my instruction 'sheet' (y) . Don't think I've ever bought any bust with so many parts:D
