Nice one Phil, the yoke on the 58patt webbing has a web fastener. If he is a Major don't give him a map. Screenshot_20210122-142200~2.png

Don't tell me you kept your webbing! I remember now - a metal loop and tab, like the pouches. Officers and maps don't belong in the same sentence. My original NCO cadre weekend, we got badly lost on SP 'cos the looey in charge couldn't read a map. Heady days:rolleyes:

Mine was on SP too but no officers in charge, run by snco's. Perhaps they all knew what we all knew.

Howdy Chaps.
Its a nice sculpt indeed.I was under the impression that 5th Infantry brigade in the Falklands including the Guards wore the Arctic parkas which had the quilted Mao Waistcoats?.The paras and Marines wore the Arctic Windproofs which had layers of clothing underneath. These were issued from Units to paras returning endex from Norway.I have a Parka c.1983/4 and a Guards veteran here i spoke to said they wore them with the quilted liners with trousers.I know he wasnt bullying as i saw his campaign medal at Remeberance service other year.
Cheers from Rich.

Evening all.

This afternoon I started the camo pattern on this chap. I used this smock as reference for the shapes
Cam 2.jpgCam 1.jpg

The base colour is a pale stone shade which I made up using Vallejo Buff, Light Grey and a touch of Medium Olive. This was brushed on carefully with a No 3 brush.
The next overlay colour is the green, which is a weird pale pea-green hue. This was achieved using Vallejo Game Colour Scorpy Green, with light grey and a touch of yellow. The blotches were painted with a No 1 brush: The second overlay - brown was a combination of Vallejo Chocolate Brown and Chestnut Brown. Photo shows brown swathes in process:

The final colour is the Black segments. Vallejo Black Grey in this case. These seem to predominate on the green and less on the brown.
So this is as far as it got this afternoon.Smock 3.jpgSmock 4.jpgSmock 5.jpg
I will now adjust all the colour areas to incorporate the stippled effect on the edges of the swathes (as in the close-up above) and shade and highlight it. I'm reasonably pleased with it so far but may revisit the scarf as I'm not convinced it is the right colour. Thanks for looking(y)

Hi Phil

Well I would be very pleased with that camo ...and it's not finished yet !

Hope to get one of these so will use your colours and methods

Will you define the seams and put a wash over once finished ?

Thanks for updates

Happy benchtime

Thanks Kev, I appreciate your input! Yes, I plan to weather the seams, which is quite evident on all these smocks, almost as if the colour rubs off on the wear points. It will get some sort of final glaze but I haven't decided what is going to be the best option as yet.

Great start on the camo work Phil. Looks like you’ve captured that DPM to a tee. Looking forward to seeing more.

Afternoon all! A couple of hours done today. I find my eyesight doesn't cope very well beyond 3 hours using an optivisor.

So today's session involved getting the detail into the smock, using light washes and some careful paintwork. I also painted the '58 webbing using some old bits I have kicking about from a former life:rolleyes: Just a few small jobs for tomorrow then I can mate the head and body and call it done.
This is how it looks ATM

Still not convinced the scarf is right, but I guess as he will be an officer, he could wear a PP - maybe I'll leave it then:whistle:
Thanks for looking!

Hi Phil

Yiu have nailed te camo .....and the webbing ....something to aspire to for me definately

Perhaps give the scarf a school pattern ....as he's a officer ??

Thanks for sharing

Look forward to the "small" jobs

The DPM looks spot on Phil - just the right degree of fading to my eye, as if that smock had been washed a good few times. Colour of the webbing’s good too.
I’d be tempted to leave the scarf as it is - it could well be a cap comforter used as a scarf, which some soldiers would have had on their 1157 in 1982. I hung onto mine from 1979-84, using it to wrap my mess tins in to stop them rattling in the kidney pouches. Just a thought.......

Afternnon all. Our Scots Guard is now complete and I have posted the pics on "Completed Figures"
I'm quite pleased with the outcome, and I am most grateful for all your support and input. It did make things a lot easier(y)
