Here the fold is again. It's important to keep in mind what fabric the garment you are sculpting is made of. Things cotton, wool, leather, and rubber all have an individual look of their own leaving it's own number and types of folds.

I try to smooth the Sculpey as much as possible. Sandpaper and fine steel wool will be used to clean up any remaining tool marks.

Rfer to the photo of the models to see where some of the Sculpey has been removed. I want to reproduce the areas where material is away from the shirt as well as against the body.

You make it look easy Gary... show us some of your bad attempts once in a while okay? It'll make the rest of us feel better about our sculpting. ;)

Francesca

Francesca, I normally do not consider most of my projects as GOOD attempts. There's nothing worse for me than getting too comfortable or pleased with the results. I ALWAYS try to improve one or more parts of the next figure.~Gary

Gary, on sculpy, what grit of sandpaper and how fine of steel wool do you use for cleaning up tool marks. I have had prolems in the past with sculpy in fine clean up.

James, The sanpaper and steel wool were both bought at a Lowe's or Home Depot store. I would look for the finest grade of sandpaper possible. I cut the larger sheets up into smaller squares and put them in a sandwich bag. I also get a rougher grit paper that's good for removing larger amounts of material or for giving a surface some texture before adding additional material. The fine/extra fine steel wool comes in a fairly large pack that will last you a while. I first bought some at an A.C. Moore craft store, but you'll find this to be the more expensive way to buy. Go to a hardware chain first, you'll get more for your money.~Gary

Here are a few pictures of the patch pocket that I'm working on. I had a few others, but they were lost when I had to reformat (right term?) my computer over the weekend. They are simple to do. Take a piece of Sculpey and press it onto the area where the pocket goes. The original shirt I worked from has two patch pockets, one of either side of the placket. As only a part of one will be showing, that's all I'll need to do. The piece is then trimmed into the overall outside shape of the pocket. Followinf this step i then removed some of the Sculpey by following the contours of the main folds of the shirt. I will then go in and refine it with smaller folds and or wrinkles.
