I've decide to redo the arms as the position of them were not quite right. I've decided to try thr techniques illustrated in the article referenced on page 4 of this thread. I lightly coated the "plug' with vaseline. A ball of Aves putty was rolled and pressed into place and shaped to roughly resemble the upper section of the arm.

After curing the pieces were popped off and some of the excess was carved off.

A hole was then drilled into the center of the "female" portion of the plug. I will drill through this hole and into the plug itself later. A brass pin will be inserted to hold both in place so the remainder of the arms can be sculpted.

A hole is drilled into the ends of both pieces and heavy gauge copper wire is inserted. The wire was cut a little long and the excess will be removed later.

Two views showing the pieces in place. I will put a bit of superglue at the end of each plug and let dry. This will hold the pieces in place when I drill through the plug.

Hello Gary
I see that your Work is nearly arriving to the end
and I am tasting these beautifulst ones progress.
It compliments for the joints.
Brilliant......... Good Job.

MAB

Maurizio, It's almost done, but the arms and hands remain. I'll finish with all the buttons, buckles, and canteen. I'm also thinking about adding a few amputated hands and feet that will be placed behind him.~Gary

but the piece you will paint it or crude leaving ?

:) MAB
Maurizio, I would not mind having a few castings of this piece but I doubt that will happen. I would like to see it painted, However, I will in all liklihood NOT be the one painting the figure. I do have a painter in mind though.~Gary

For a Great and beautiful figure as this wants a great painter to us,
therefore good search is much onlooker to see it and painting complete.

Good Job My Friend

MAB ;)

A small drop of Superglue is put on the top of the plug and the upper arms are put into place. The figure is set aside for a few hours or more while the Superglue dries. I then take a pin vice and using the holes drilled into the upper arms earlier as a guide. If all goes well I should have drilled through the center of both plugs. A brass pin is then inserted to help hold the piece in place. The copper wire portions of the arms are then bent into position.

You may notice the figure not only has the hat on his head, but is wearing a new hat. I just did not like the one I originally made, and settled on a hat that looks a little worse for the wear. I've also decided to have the hat on his head tilted back. Give the position of the right arm/hand the hat would get in the way of the figure's head/face too much.

I add Aves putty to the copper wire once the arm positions are established. Another layer of putty will follow this one.

NOTE The portion of the SBS on sculpting the hands will be covered in a separate section once the basic musculature of the arms are complete. I would like to try two separate methods for doing the hands. These hands will not be going on the figure , but will be positioned behind the figure on the ground. The hands on the figure will done using the same method(s) as the SBS hands.

This picture shows the pin inserted into the left arm. Enought has been left sticking out so it can be removed once the work is finished.

The initial layer of putty complete. A second layer will further define the musculature.

Looking good Gary keep up the Grate Work. I like the new hat better.

I have one Question does the brass pin go all the way threw both arms or is there two pins one for each arm. I'm just curious.

Larry

Steven, Thanks. Having a posed model to work from really makes a huge difference in getting the hang of the clothing just right.~Gary
