Hi All!

Here's and sbs on how I sculpt a pant leg using Magic Sculp.

I start by scoring the surface.
vmi12.jpg

I roll out the putty and cut up sections 1/8" to 3/16" of an inch long. Yes,
that toothpick has seen it's share of sculpting.
vmi13.jpg

I start applying the putty from the inside out. No reason, it's just easier
for me to smoth out the putty.
vmi14.jpg

The putty is applied and smoothed out. This is done by using a constant
rolling pin and burnishing motion. It's basically, rubbing the surface until
it becomes uniform and has a nice sheen to it.

I slice the bottom to give it a clean edge.
vmi17.jpg

Then make small dents to where the folds will go.
vmi18.jpg

Carefully pushing putty around to the desired "look". All the while using
that burnishing motion to make it smooth.

Not satisfied with the original plan for the folds I added a couple more.
Keeping in mind the weight of the fabric of the uniform, which would be
a heavy cotton and wool blend.

I'm not totally satisfied with how it turned out but this how I approach
sculpting clothing.
Thanks for looking! :)
This may be my last post for awhile. We're moving this weekend and
have to shut off the computer sometime today.

Jason, It's always interesting to see how one's pers work and the sometimes scary similiarites we sometimes have. I can't wait to see what's next, thanks for taking the time to put this together.~Gary (y)

P.S. Good luck with the move.

A million thanks Jason for posting these steps. Especially right before you are moving. We appreciate it.

Best of luck moving.......I feel for ya.........I hate moving!!!

Great post Jason!

Like Gary stated, it is always interesting to see how others work.

Do you let the putty set up for a while or is it still fresh? Whats your mix ratio of resin and hardener?

Hope your move goes smoothly!

Thanks Gary and Guy!

I still have to get my pF "fix", even when everything is getting hectic for the move.

Anders, you know it depends on the tempreture and humidity. In the summer it dosn't take long for it to set up, so I start sculpting once the putty is smooth and I've figured out where I want the folds.

I use equal parts. In the past, I would mix more resin than hardner, to give me more sculpting time, but I get the same working time when I use equal parts.

Jason,

Good luck on the move. Thanks for the sbs. Like everyone has said before, it is nice seeing how others work.

One other thing, I think your work in the last few projects has made such a huge jump. This is not saying they were not nice before but you have just gone from 0-60 in a flash!

Joe

Thanks Manfred, Joe and Janne!

I should point out that I use water to lubricate the toothpick.

Each time, before I pick up a piece of putty, I dip the toothpick in a cup of water and wipe the access off onto a finger ( I do alot of this). As many of you know, MS is very sticky when first mixed and leaves a residue on the "tool" if not lubricated well. This takes a little tolerence and patience in my opinion.

;) Thanks a million for describing your method. As a newbie to sculpting this kind of posting really helps me. I would never have thought about cutting up pieces of Magic Sculpt to make clothing sequence by sequence. I would also never have thought about scoring the body part first to help hold the putty.

Isn't Magic Sculpt great stuff!!!??? I tried four other putties and have stopped using everything else except Magic Sculpt and Kneadatite.

Thanks for the SBS,Jason  ! I'll have to try out your method soon.Good luck on the move (y) Cheers !
Kenneth ;)
