Well done Barrie, there might be a few minor errors, but overall that looks pretty good(y)(y). I like the quirky half grin. you'll find it'll look more natural if you put a neck under it. Two areas I would look at are, as you say, the ears but also the size of the nostrils. A good trick is to hold it up to a mirror, that generally shows up any problem areas. When you really get going, I think you'll really enjoy faces(y).
Best wishes, Gary.

Your perseverance has paid off, once you've squared his ears away this will be good. Not all men are perfect like me, I've met a few dudes uglier than that in the Bn. Well done mate.
Cheers Scotty, lol plenty of ugly dudes in the Bn, but all remain good mates. Will work on the ears and other bits later.
Cheers
Barrie

Gary, thanks for noticing the nostrils, and the wee tip. The other half also pointed them out to me but as she was more interested in that than me I didn't take any notice lol. That will teach me.
Cheers

That's Brilliant Barrie, Really coming on.... on the sculpting front how are you finding sculpy To work with...Kevin

Well done Barrie!
You have made huge strides with this mate.
Its all about refining now buddy!

Well done!

Richie, Gary etc are pointing you in the eight direction.

Carl

Carl, I could not have managed this without the help from yourself Gary, Richie, Andrew (Arj) and all the other members of PF who have given support and guidance. So a big thanks to you all. Don't worry though I'm sure I will have more questions for you in the future about anatomy!
Thanks,
Barrie.

Thanks for the support Kevin and glad you like it. Ref Sculpey, not had any problems with it at all. The above head was started on late Sunday night and the Sculpey is still workable. It doesn't take long to get used to and highly recommend it.
Will shoot you an email later about stuff I'm stuck on.
Cheers,
Barrie.

No worries mate!
I'll always help if I can.

I'm gald you've made the progress you have. Hopefully it will give you the confidence to carry on.

Carl

Very well done Barrie.
Your progress, based on your previous post, is astronomical.
Thank goodness for the pointers from the experts.
I'm really going to have to up my game if I'm going to have any chance of keeping up with you.

Cheers,
Andrew

I think I've hit a bit of a brick wall.
This is my sixth sculpt, and I feel that I've moved backwards on this one.

Please feel free to rip it to shreds.
Meanwhile, I'm going off to get get the seventh one started.

Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew,

I think you've made an improvement Myself mate!

If that head is still soft...? Which it looks like it is.
Two very small things will change the entire face.

If you push the chin back slightly with your finger, and push brow slightly down. It will look so much better.

But it only needs a very slight adjustment.

I think you've done a cracking job mate, well done!

Carl

Andrew, I actually prefer this one to your previous, so IMO yes there is improvement(y) . Were you able to make the changes Carl suggested? Wouldn't mind seeing a wee pic if you were. Starting your seventh.................getting nearer to Cyclops then :D.

Barrie.

Barrie, Thanks for the comment. I haven’t done the adjustment yet, but the sculpt remains soft.
I also got a PM from Gary Higgins who gave me a similar critique, but from a different viewpoint.
In both cases the finger was firmly pointed at the chin.
Many, many thanks to both Carl and Gary.
Anyway, being a somewhat single minded person with an engineering background, I viewed the ‘brick wall’ as an obstacle to be got over or round, rather than as a potential block. Hence my intention of getting on with No. 7.
Oh well, here I go again … No. 7 … Fire away, one and all.

I must admit, while I do like Super Sculpy, the flesh colour can be a bit difficult to work with. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Andrew

Its a pleasure to help if I can.
Keep going mate you'll get there!

Andrew, looks like the"brick wall" is behind you now mate. That didn't take long to do number 7. Well done.
I use the standard white and black sculpey and mix together. Strangely, I have found the more black in the mix the easier for me to get smooth.
Keep up the good work mate.

Barrie.

Now that I’ve got the latest attempt out of the way, it’s time to retrace my steps and try to apply the advice given by Carl for Head No. 6.

If you push the chin back slightly with your finger, and push brow slightly down. It will look so much better.

Carl,
I’ve pushed the chin back a bit and applied pressure to the brow, as suggested. In addition, I’ve rotated the head forward slightly to get away from the ‘thrust forward’ look:-

Just for comparison, I’ve placed both photos together.

All comments will be appreciated.

Gary,
Many thanks for your PM. I thought I’d apply Carl’s suggestions first and see where it got me. What do you think?

Cheers,
Andrew
