Hi pF friends,

In addition to Apoxie Sculpt I've started using Super Sculpey (Grey) a few weeks ago, and as a clay sculpt practice I've doing sculpting sketch these days.

Here's one of my sketches, inspired by one of my favourite film "Mary Shelly's Frankenstein (1994)". (I'm a big fan of this film and Robert De Nilo)
Still rough sketch and "STILL WIP!" :)

Holy moly))) This is just great! Well done! I was just about to sculpt Frankenstein ..... and then you have taken away my bread.

Hi Fex, thanks a lot for your compliments. I want to see your version too!
Still haven't got used to handling and detailing with Sculpey though...

Kaz - I really like Grey sculpey for firmness when not yet fired and for durability once cooked. I do a lot of my more detailed sculpting with a brush wetted with clay softener - have you tried that at all? And that is definitely NOT a sketch :)

Colin

Colin,

I don't have clay softener, I'm giving it a try with alcohol and baby oils. I don't know which is my best. maybe I should try softener.

Carl,

Thanks a lot for your warm comment, Carl. I'm glad to have words from a sculptor I admire, Everyday I see your two indian busts on my desk. :)

Hi Kaz, I think you've done a great job, very good likeness of DeNiro. Personally though, I don't care who plays the part, the only true Frankenstein is Karloff!
For smoothing down supersculpy, the best I have found is Vaselline(petroleum jelly).
Best wishes, Gary.

Thanks Jazz, swralph, and Gary for your comments!

That's good, tastes differ. :)

My opinion is different. Since I read Mary Shelly's book, (In my opinion) I think "true to" original book is Kenneth Branagh's version which show the Dr.Frankenstein's unnamed creature is not a monster but a much-patched real human body parts (and soul).
Reason why I admire Kenneth Branagh and De nilo's work is because they didn't follow Jack Pierce's makeup work in 1st film and express their imagination to Mary Shelly's book, and De nilo's version is really close to the creature I had in mind when I read the book. I was really moved, and impressed. ( I read the book first, then the movie)
That's the reason I sculpt this.

For smoothing down supersculpy, the best I have found is Vaselline(petroleum jelly).

Thanks for the Tips, Gary!

Quality work Kaz looks great. I have confess to my shame I quite like the version of Frankenstein's monster from Van Helsing :cautious:

Hey kaz

Nice job.
I use Alcohol on mine its works great and you can use it for softening organic details on face etc, and it
unlick water doesn't hang around as it will evaporate quite quickly.
