I have managed the odd session at my desk every now and then over the last few days, apart from a sleep over on Sunday my little monster has been here during the day since I got back on Sunday.

Any how i have got a fair amount done, he still needs some tidy up and a bit more work on the gold lace and probably his mace.

Apart from that he is ready to go on his base and I just have his sword to sort out.

Hopefully I'll be able to crack on tomorrow as I'm itching to start a new project.

Cheers Simon

It's a really nice piece of work. You've combined the bright colours very convincingly and I like his slightly menacing expression.

Agree there , he does look menacing! .........nice piece of benchtime on this fellow , particularly like the kepi, head and the red trousers and the way you’ve painted the ribbons

Great thread to follow

Look forward to seeing the final pics in the Completed forum

Have fun

Thanks gents, it's nice to get some bench time in, no Granddaughter today but I'm sure the boss will have plenty for me to do, still good listening on Planet Rock tonight so maybe a late session is on the cards.

My next two figures will follow this same general colour scheme, really must try and break away for this, it's becoming monotonous.

Not sure about him looking menacing, it wasn't intentional, but he is a Senor NCO so shouldn't look friendly.

That is looking really nice, loving the way you handled the blues and red. And the face is full of character.

Cheers Nigel, I feel I have done too many in this colour scheme recently if I'm not careful I'll end up forgetting how to paint other colours!

What you need Simon is a bust .....resin type I hasten to add !

Look forward to seeing more on this and the new ones

I did a bust recently, I'll have another go at some stage but not for a while I think, but yeah I'd like to do one and have a TFB one in mind.

Great job !
Can anyone help me with their favourite tips for adding homemade buttons ?
I once stretched plastic sprue to form long thin rods, with the help of a candle flame, then carefully rounded the tip edging it near a controlled warm source (pyrograph at minimum power usually) and finally cut the tiny dome thus obtained = 1 button. Tiresome and very time consuming

Hi, thanks for commenting. I now use a punch and die set to make my buttons, but for what they are they are expensive. Before that I would roll small bit of Magicsculpt and stick them in place with either PVA or occasionally superglue.

A couple of other options are get some fine plastic rod from one of the manufacturers, simply cut small cross sections, fix with the tiniest bit of superglue and when firm file the a little flatter. Or look up Grandt Line, they make sets of bolt heads etc but more usable are their rivet heads. They come on a sprue with a rod connecting them to sprue, get the right size that works for you and you have ready made buttons.

Thanks a lot ! By the way, your flats were pure joy to me ! I still have a few of mine, not that level of course, maybe I'll post some if I can take a decent picture.

Seems like a life time ago that I painted flats I was just starting to get good when I lost interest in them, mine are mostly acting as insulation in the loft these days. If you can put some pictures up, it's always nice to see other people's work.

Hope the bit on the buttons was helpful.

Cheers Simon
