And the blue of the first Hussars is also, according to some references, supposed to be darker than that usually depicted.

I like the idea of this thread, especiially as I'm attending some art training on the theme of pigments at the moment.

Hello HUW,
Yes, there is confusion on the Bleu Celeste Fonce of the 1eme hussards. The 10eme hussards as well. Here is an interesting discussion on the subject that I ran across years ago: http://lesapn.forumactif.fr/t5069p60-le-5-eme-hussard Enjoy.

Really nice, still a very beautiful realization of Semper! The painting is also superb!:love:(y)

Thanks for the link. As an aside the mannequin of an officer 5th Hussars at the Musee de l?Emperi (made into a 90mm figure by Metal Modeles) is medium to dark blue. That's one museum I have yet to see.

Yes, I am aware of that uniform although I have not seen it in person either. By the way, if you have ever seen the great master Edouard Detaille's painting 'Remise au Senate des trophees', you will see in the left foreground what is clearly a hussar of the 5th regiment carrying an Austrian standard. I believe that is a correct depiction of bleu ciel. It is much darker than is often depicted.

An excellent reference and I agree with you as to the correctness of the colour.
