The 14th annual WASMEx (Western Australian Scale Model Expo) is on Saturday 21-Sunday 22nd September at the Canning Exhibition Centre in Cannington.

This year we will be treated by an exclusive display of Shepard Paine dioramas, many of which have never been on public display before. These dioramas, which are on display thanks to the genrosity of the owner of a private collection, represent some of the finest examples of the art of scale modelling ever produced, by the man widely considered to be one of the true heroes of our hobby.

What a wonderful addition to your Wasmex show to have these classic Shep Paine pieces included!
Wish I could be there Tony, please be sure to record this event for the rest of us to enjoy please!......cheers mate!

Just a quick reminder to all Western Australian planeteers that they can pre-register their models for the WASMEx competition by filling in the registration form at www.wasmex.org

This will save time on Saturday morning when there is usually a rush to register the models for the competition.

Only 5 sleeps to go before WASMEx 2013 kicks off. I hope to see you all there.

Congratulations to fellow Planeteer, club mate and top bloke Nick Mulligan (NickM) for being awarded Best Of Show by the judges at WASMEx today for his magnificent 54mm Mounted Polish Hussar. A very well deserved accolade Nick.

Congratulations also to Chris Walden (Loosehead) for his awesome quarter scale bust of an Australian digger which was awarded Best Australian Subject by the judges at WASMEx. Good one bro

Hi guys,

Well the 14th annual WASMEx show is over and I'm very proud to report that Planeteers have once again dominated the figures & busts categories in the competition.

Nick Mulligan (NickM) won First Place in the Small Scale Figures category and Best of Show Judges Choice for his outstanding 54mm Polish Mounted Hussar, he also won second place in Small Scale Figure category for his wonderful Squadron Leader piece showing a Polish pilot at ease with his dog during the Battle of Britain. Nick has really improved in leaps and bounds over the past couple of years and has now announced his arrival as one of WA's best figure modellers.

I was fortunate to be awarded first in the Large Scale Figures category for my Retreat from Moscow 1812 piece and second for the Australian Infrantryman 1917.

The bust category was one of the most competitive categories in the entire competition with many quality pieces. My Maori Warrior won first place, Chris Walden's (Loosehead) magnificent 1/4 scale WW1 Australian Digger bust won second place and was awrded Best Australian subject, and Chris also won third place for his Mongol Warrior.

In the Fantasy/ Sci Fi Figures category Scott Murray (Khogor) won second place with his Manga Girl (sorry Scott I can't remember her name) and my Leonidas figure won third.

I'm also very proud to mention that after 15 years involvement with WASMEX, as a founder and Committee Member and Chief Judge, I was inducted into the WASMEX Hall of Fame this year, which is a tremendous honour and one that I am very proud of.

Thanks to all the guys from the Historical Figure Modelling Society of Western Australia for putting on another great figure modelling display, and especial thanks to Ben Flood for spending the weekend running the Firestorm Hobbies table on behalf of David Hay, and selling lots and lots of figure kits. Sorry about my crappy photography, but here are some pics of the figures and busts entered into the comp by Planeteers.
