Here's the start on the bust Steve Readdie kindly sculpted and cast for me I showed the original pics to a select few (AKA the usual suspects :sneaky:) and was given some excellent advice (amid the gales of laughter ) on how it could be improved much obliged to you all gents (y) hopefully the last pic will show signs of improvement ebverything is still very basic ATM waiting for the oils to settle a bit before working shadows and contrasts, likewise the uniform etc is just base coated to give me a feel for the overall look. The eyes still need a lot of tidying I know. As ever all comments and criticism appreciated

Thanks Steve just sprayed up another two in primer to try different ideas on them, two best ones will go to Mom and his brother the worst I'll keep :sneaky: One challenge is getting the hair to look glossy without over doing it as Dad was of the generation that used grease/Brylcreem by the bucket I've used oils which I don't normally do for hair and it seems to be fairly close (y)

A very good start on a very fine casting Steve. Great subject with emotional background and feelings......so no pressure.
As Carl says; just close down the eye lids a little and a bit more on the left as you look at it than the right.
Other wise I love the detail on this piece; dental work, beret and cap badge, facial expression and shirt all very very good.
Following this baby closely Mate,
Cheers,
Keith

I am glad I had the easy part with the sculpting :) rest is down to you mate :p
Looking much better that the first version, keep puting the time into the eyes, if they are not right it puts the whole face out.

Steve

Cheers Steve, yeah the eyes definitely are the key to this I'll keep at it next figure I do will have the visor down

Steve

Hi Steve,
Don't fret too much about the eyes. Wait until the current paint of the acctual eyeball is dry. Then, using a fine brush slowly close down the eye lids with thin strokes. Do this to both eyes trying to match one to the other. If you find that you have over shot and the eyes are too closed, clean your bush and moisten it with a small amount of turpentine. Now just paint this on the eye ball gently opening the eyes to where you want them to be.
PM me if you need more info.
Cheers,
Keith

Nice start Steve , the skin tones look well but as already been said the eyes are the key especially as he's facing straight ahead . Some great advice so far mate and looking forward to seeing this develop.
Cheers Ken

Nice idea this bust Steve.
Looking forward to further progress with the skintones.
I think it's worthwhile to spend a bit more time on the irises. IMHO they should be larger and definitely rounder.
Brave effort, doing a bust....

Not going to offer any advice as you have plenty already. Just wanted to say what an awesome project you've got going (y)!!

Steve

Steve,
Press on with it Mate, it's all there just work at it. It will be great with a few tweeks on the eyes and a little shadow here and there.
You have the where with all to do it...... time and patience.
Go for it.
Cheers,
Keith

Yeah cheers Keith I'm debating which way to go really can it be rectified or is it easier to start again really :cautious:
