Mate, It looks fine.
Just close the eyelids a little on the right as you look at it and then more on the left to match. have a look at my post above.
Once you have done this it will be easier to give the iris the rounder shape as Adrian says. Keep in touch Mate PM if you wish
All the best,
Keith

Will do mate as I say I'm taking a day or two to mull over which way to go with it (y) Thanks for the support Keith

Steve

Ok helped out by so many useful tips and good advice how does this look ? Pic is up to my usual standard I know but I am really interested in your critique on the eyes

A big improvement Steve, are you right handed by any chance? His left eye is much better than his right. One tip I've heard of to help is to hold the figure upside down to paint the eye opposite to your painting hand. Hope that makes sense, if not tell me.

Roger.

I am right handed yes Rog oddly enough to my eye the right looks bigger than the left though :confused: I must admit though the pic does look as you say  Cheers for the tip Steve good idea (y)

Steve

Looks much better Steve,
I am pleased that you are sticking with it. Good trick from Roger, give it a try and I am sure you will be happy with the result.
All the best,,
Keith

Hi Steve ,

Its coming along now.....like the 5 o'clock shadow ...keep at it , you will have a very individual piece and what a wonderful tribute .

Going to look really good with the nameplate you plan using

Keep us all updated

Nap

Cheers Nap your figure should be in the post Fri all being well so you'll have all week end to put mine to shame

Steve

Tony that is just the base I will layer it with a flesh coat or two but thanks for the heads up (y)

Steve

This is the stage of play so far I'm a bit happier with the face but will see what you folks think :nailbiting: The rest is blocked in now and have started to shade the shirt etc but a long way off done yet. As an aside I have guessed the colours on the shoulder flash to be the RTR's famous brown red and green symbolising through mud and blood to the green fields beyond referencing the regiments birth during WWI

Thats the ticket Steve,
I'm pleased that you stayed with it. He looks good now. You must be pleased with the outcome so far?
Now looking forward to your magic finishing touches.....crack on.
All the best,
Keith

Great improvement in the eyes mate I'd stick with them for sure. Taking into account you have another two busts to paint each one should be easier and show an improvement. That's the theory anyhow.:D Following.(y)

Cheers Ken

Cheers Keith and Ken much appreciated I felt it looked better glad to get it confirmed though. I like the theory Ken but you know how that goes :nailbiting:

Steve

That's not looking too shabby mate. Not sure if you've finished the hair but do it a dark brown and use black maybe for the shadows and a lighter brown for the highlights. I know the Brill cream boys hair was jet black in real life but on a figure pure black doesn't give any tonal variation. Same as his eye brow fur.
The five o'clock stubble looks bang on from where I'm standing mate.
Mix some Tamiya flat base in with the colour you paint the beret...Black with a touch of Russian uniform green perhaps.
I like the uniform colour also.
You da man!
Gells

Thanks Steve me too (y) Cheers Grant I was thinking of maybe a dark brown wash for the hair to leave it mainly black with brown where the light hits it ? I've layered a flesh wash on the stubble seems to have worked well enough, the beret is actually panzer grey black with a matt finish not sure why it's glossy in the pics as it was taken natural light. I have to thank Carl for the uniform colour as he picked it out for me cos I had no real idea what to use
