After seeing Nap's excellent rendition of Moz Corry's nicely sculpted bust of Sgt. Major Edwards I managed to purchase one from Gordon at Mitches Military Models. It arrived with their usual prompt service and is a super bust.
He is based on a period photograph taken after the Crimean War that was taken at Aldershot by Robert Howlett and Joseph Cundall for a series of portraits entitled "Crimean Heroes 1856"

I have done a basic clean up of parts

But will carry on when I have more time, but I was impressed with the detail

Looking forward to starting him, so more postings as and when.

Hi Geoff
Sorry to correct you but this bust was not sculpted by Moz Corry, it was one of my own sculpts that I sold the master to Gordon some years ago, So I'll take it as a very nice compliment that you think it's good enough to be a Moz Corry sculpt.:)
It always gives me bit of a buzz that someone is happy to spend their hard earnt money and precious time to paint something that I originally sculpted, it's not a perfect copy of Sgt/Mjr Edwards face as I "sort of" based it on the man at the time of sculpting but close enough to call him Sgt/Mjr Edwards (in my opinion).
The main point I want to say here is, I'm really glad that you've managed to get a copy from Gordon, after missing out on the one I sold a couple of months back, so I hope you enjoy painting him, hopefully I'll see the finished article at one of the shows sometime in the near future.
All the best & Cheers (y)
Jim
P.S. I think you'll find that Kev's version was a first sculpt of the man this one you have is actually slightly different being that it's a second sculpt done for Gordon, I think it came out better maybe?

Many thanks for the info Jim, and sorry I didn't credit you for him.

I think he is quite a good likeness to Edwards, if anything the bust is looking a mite more serious than the photograph, but so what it's a great subject.

Gordon was good enough to cast one for me as I showed an interest, which I really appreciated, and excellent service as usual from him.

I have just finished cleaning him up and given the parts a good hot soapy wash and it is drying, so with a bit of luck I shall start gluing him together tomorrow.

Thanks Nap, I will study them before I do anything else, and you know me with lacework, medals and badges, love the intricate work.

Jim certainly has a great talent, I would like to get a few more from his hand.

Managed to get the arms glued into place, I had a bit of a job to get the left arm connected to the hand holding the glove and the top of the arms at the shoulders lined up, but after a bit of grinding, sanding, filling and cursing I managed it. Again a bit of sanding and filling to get the head with it's attached collar fitted and glued into place.

He was left overnight to give the glue and filler a chance to cure, then a bit of sanding where necessary and black then white rattle can primers blown over him, now left to dry, before starting the painting of his face.

Really looking forward to painting all the details, the primers have really given them some definition, excellent work Jimbo.

Don't you have beds in the west country.
I know they say the older we get the less sleep we need but you are cracking
on with this mate,
The badges will put a stop to your gallop.
Have it finished by tea time.
