I must again thank Nap who's going to post the photos to go with this post later.
Must get around to sorting out the issue of not being able to reduce the size of my photos.

I've made a start on the hat and I wanted it to look dirty and stained as it appears in the tv series 1883.

Initially a sponge was used to apply a mottled effect before some stains were added.

Sepia oils were used to produce sweat stains, but I need to soften then a bit, as I think the colour is too deep.

Looks pretty good to me. I have no idea who this character is so I Googled some pics and I think the sweat stains look pretty similar to some of the pictures IMO.

I guess its just me being picky. I had an idea in my head on how I wanted to look, and unfortunately for me it didn't.
I've googled some pictures myself, and find I got it closer to the mark than I thought, I must've got lucky.
