A fun little project, painted in oils...
Really enjoyed this one. The base was painted to resemble a bee hive with honey and yes, these are real bees...Note: No bees were hurt or killed in the process of making this mini...(they were, erm, dead already...)

Hope you like it!

Thank you.

I have to admit that the bees was a bold decision on my part. I wasn't sure how it will look with the actual (dead) bees on it. Got inspired by an article on a painted figure that they used a real tiny spider and I said 'weeelll, why not?'...

My wife doesn't like it either...

Very unique piece... interesting idea.
Only question: what do you think will happen to the bees over time? Or did you treat them somehow to perserve them?

Colin

That is a question that only time will answer. I tried soaking one in resin water but it got instantly black. So for the remaining three that are on the base, I sprayed them with sealer, Mr. Clear I think, one that I have to spray minis and have a matte finish. And I am paying my son with Lego kits to keep away the bugs. ;-p

What about using glycerine to coat them? I know it's used to preserve botanical bits; maybe it'll work the same with the bees. I'd also try Future.

Prost!

Hope the bees not have died purposely for this job?:stop:
Beautiful and lovely work.

Pedro.
