Nice to see us Scaleys getting a mention (y) Another beaut from Carl nice one Stuart good to see the real heroes represented :smug: at last

Beautiful sculpt, personally though I would trim the cape in line with the bust cut off line, sometimes I find 'overhang' a bit aesthetically odd but that's a personal thing. Hanging arms too never seem to qualify it as a a bust technically, more a half figure. All that aside though well done Carl, excellent piece and nice touch with the hand holding the smoke.

Its actually a pencil....he's a signaller...they took coordinates from observers wrote them down and passed them on to the officer etc on to the guns..

Some people like a bit more in their "bust"..u cant please everybody

Lovely piece Stu and superb work by Carl, plenty to get the brushes into and full of character :))))
Great work, Carl really has helped bring modelling to a whole new level :)

I hadn't realised it was a pencil myself but a tip for anybody modelling this is that it would be normal practice to sharpen both ends of it in order that if the lead snapped you only had to turn it around to ensure no break in transcription.

Another great bust from Carl, but please, if you like "British" WWI, why allways helmet , and not something different like beginning of the war with the superbs Cap & Collar badges, why not also other "British" subjects, CEF, ANZAC, Indian Troops, it will be great.

Its my first WW1 bust with a helmet,,,the other 2 had caps and hats etc.

In response to other subjects from WW1 they are coming.

Many thanks

Stuart

PS in the rain i think i would wear me helmet

Hi Stu,
This is yet another great subject from Carl well sculpted and waiting in anticipation for Mark's rendition.
Just not sure about your spelling Mate.
Cheers,
Keith

It was just a remark about quite all the bust and figures of the army (except 2 bust from Storm-i got them- Tommy's war- i've got, Model Cellar -1 bust), i just hope that there's more beginning of the war, with the different Cap Badges, one problem is that the great book for Cap Badges of the WW1 British Empire (The Cox as all militaria collector name that's book) is out of print.

This is a great piece and I will get it soon to add to my other busts of Carls, I take your point, I'm a bit of a traditionalist about busts and like a classic cut off line then the focus is on just the face because busts are after all portraits in clay but do appreciate that some people prefer a 'larger canvas' and others just go for head and shoulders. Stu, this wasn't a critique by the way just my personal preference aired and bared.

Here is the inspiration behind the piece that carl used to produce the sculpt

Cheers and thanks for all your great comments

Stuart
