Working on a Pompey the Great figure and I wanted to paint his cuirass silver. Any suggestions? I love my Vallejos but am hesitating using the silver color. Want to get a rich silver color worthy of a counsel of Rome.

Hi There
I sometimes use a silver ink, if you get hold of it usually from a printers

It gives a bright silver tone and can be shaded and highlighted with oils

It comes like honey and I use white spirit to thin it down before applying it

A modern art shop would probably stock it as well
Hope this helps
Cheers

John

If the figure is metal, you could try polishing the cuirass, then sealing it. You can also purchase metalizer paints in various shades at your hobby shop. These require airbrushing and sealing.

Regular hobby putty works on metal figures.

Lately i do my metalwork with a paint that can be polished.
I start with dark iron, polish.
Then i paint with stainless steel, polish
Then i paint with chrome and polish.
I get a various shade's of iron/silver and i find it awesome.
The paint is Gunze Sanyo Mr Metal.

Good luck.
