Hi Guys,I thought I would post some pictures of my figure of Sir Edmund Hillary. For anyone out there who is not familiar with New Zealander Ed Hillary. He was the first man to reach the summit of Mt Everest in 1953.I was prompted to post some pictures after seeing Andrea Miniatures 54mm figure (Hillary).I sculpted this figure two and a half years ago now and it is still my favourite scratch built figure.I have always admired Ed Hillary for his acheivments and how he has always remained a very humble man throughout his life.Even at the age of 84 today he still manages to public speak to audiences from which funds are still rasied to support the peoples of Nepal for whom he has never forgotten. It is Always something special when you can create a figure that has a personal touch for yourself.I hope you like the figure.Kind regards John Belcher :)

John hi

please post some more photos, that is a terrific model. (y)

The painting on the shirt looks enough of a challenge, but I'd love to see a close up of the face, and a view of the back of the figure.

Impressive sculpt of an impressive man

John,

What an AMAZING likeness ! Hillary has always been one of my favourite "personalities" (he'd be loathe to hear himself referred to as such !) of the 20th Century. You've done an incredible job on the figure - being a fellow Kiwi, have you had a chance to show it to Sir Ed himself ?

A year or so back, I was inspired by the 1953 Everest expedition to produce this 54mm scratchbuilt of Hillary's partner, Tenzing Norgay, based upon Hillary's famous summit photo:

Hmmm.... no image, but here's the link:

I know I've posted it here before, but it seems appropriate to include it again - honest, guys, I have done other stuff since !

Thanks again John for sharing Hillary with us !

Cheers,

Brian

Jhon,

This is a great tribute to the man who climb the Everest and reach the summit for the first time.
For that time a great event, today it still is, but sometime's it looks like it is a tourist route on the Everest.
You gave a great likeness to the figure, and an excellent painting.

Thanks for sharing.

marc.
