Hi all,

First of all, a marvelous figure Marijn!

Second, I have to agree with Gino. Marijn really has what it takes to as Gino put it:" be one of the top modellers of the world that influence the modelling scene alot."
I have not been fortunate enough to see his work in person until the AMT show this year. The main reason I attended that show, was to see the work of the spanish modelers, Jaume Ortiz in particular.
The show was all I hoped for and more, Jaumes painting is really exceptional, but Marijns work impressed me the most.
I have thought a lot about the reasons for that a lot and this is what I came up with.
First of all, Marijns figures look a lot better in person than in photos, but that is a common problem with painters of such skill. Second and main reason is that his figures are different, they posses a certain artistic dimension, that goes beyond technical perfection. He can tell a story with one figure. The expressing power of his faces, combined with original situations and attention to detail, both on figure and base are the reasons I have to agree with Gino, about the influence this kind of modeling should have on the entire scene. Marijn is by no means the only one who does that, but certainly one of them.

I know it has influenced me a lot in the sense that I try to look for something "extra" in all I do.

So watch your back Marijn, I am right behind you

Regards,

Luka

Thanks, Marijn, for the clear explanation to your "water" technique ! I really must try it sometime in the near future. Cheers !
Kenneth.

BTW,will you be at Boston for the figure Expo ?

Very good work, I enjoyed very much seeing in torrent your works.
I send you an email to ask for an advice you on my next figure.
Best regards.

OK, Gino and Luka, thanks for the (overly) nice words, but if my ego gets out of hand I'll blame you guys for it!!!

Besides, I don't see modelling as a competition but as a personal endavour: just trying to tell those little stories as effective as I can to get them out of my system. I guess that's no diferent for you guys!

Kenneth, I won't make it to the expo unfortunately... I have been cursing over this, but the dat is really impossible for my job. :(

Hello Samuel! It was great meeting you too! Emails have been sent by now...

Thanks Dave! The time I spent on this one was still quite OK. Because I could use a lot of commercial accessories, sculpting went quite quickly. The groundwork was more time-consuming than usual though. I estimate a total of 45 hours. I would of course like to be quicker, but only practice and experience can teach me that!

Best wishes,

Marijn

Finally catching up with things... I can only echo what was previously said - very original idea and excellent execution Marijn. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with down the road.
