Here are a few 5 X 7 acrylic paintings I recently finished. The Jaeger is based on a figure sculpted by Pf member Jason Whitman. The Union soldier painting was photographed and the Jaeger was scanned. I'm going to photograph my paintings from now on as the color is closer to the original. ~Gary

Gary -- Those are just wonderful. I enjoy military art and these are really good! I like the simplcity of the Union soldier as well as how you have treated the highs and shades on the blue coat and trousers.

Keep 'em coming! :)

Hi Gary..these are beautiful...you are definately in overdrive with these, superb paintings.

You really must do more, they are a pleasure to see.

All the best..Roy.

Hi Gary,
Very good military fine arts.
Nice work

Well done Gary, I like your art.

The Union soldier is a great portrait, you have captured something of the "feel" of the period also; any chance you would do a painting of an Old West subject, I think you could be very good at that.

Johan

Very nice paintings, Gary. One point however, when I was doing ACW reenacting, my sergeant would have smacked my fingers for the position he's holding his musket. The palm should face forward, fingers pointing downward and the thumb thumb across the stock. The right hand position would be like this figure but further up the stock.

The hand position relative to the musket remains constant so the soldier can quickly move from attention to port to laoding and firing positions.

Guys, Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm really working at this painting thing although on the downside I'm getting nothing done in the way of figure work. :( ~Gary

Al, The study is based on a studio photograph. I guess this citizen soldier has a lot to learn about soldiering.lol ~Gary
