What I really like about the painting style is that
it is unique and original. Does not remind me of
any other artists' style.

Yikes.

That's borderline obsessive. Amazing work.

Superb PE work as well painting. Everything is so clean and crisp. This man has serious patience, equipment and skill.

I don't know whether to be inspired or dejected. ;)

Wowza! Thanks for posting the link Taesung, great to see this.

Other than its extreme finesse I don't find it that unique looking - lots of 'clean paintjob' types don't go for extreme contrast, although this is becoming less common in recent years with the current trend(s).

The texture on the wool jacket too. How the hell does he do that!?
Airbrush texture it looks like - you can see a similar texture almost everywhere where it hasn't been filled/obscured with later paint.

Fine atomisation is often easily visible in a lot of macro shots (even at far smaller enlargements than this) but it's almost or completely invisible seen in the flesh.

I don't think it's simply clean. Every colors are there. It's just subtle.
This type of subtle transition of colors and super fine brush work result
in more realistic appearance and is unique and hard to find these days.
It's sort of lacking in character that figure painters love so much.

Do many painters use big magnifiers like the one pictured there?

Even if the texturing is just airbrushed it's still remarkable on a small-scale figure like that. How much is a good airbrush? :D

I've been using magnifying glasses when sculpting
but not like the high powered lab one in the pics...

This reminds me very much of the guy that sculpts and paints the scenes in the eye of a needle. I also kind of think that while awesome in its execution and technical skill, its sort of a waste since at 1/35, how many of us can 1) see that to appreciate it and 2) will have the opportunity to (outside of some excellent macro photography) to fully appreciate that type of work. It could very well be like the guys that do the fully detailed interiors of closed up vehicles (they know the detail is there) and more importantly it makes him happy. I now return to my previously scheduled and usual painting like a chimp beating a stump with a big stick.

I agree. Very difficult to achieve such an effect. It is something different - but very realistic and natural. I just love it.

Taesung, do you know where can I see more works of this author?

cheers
