Hi pF,

I came across this bust of a female russian sniper and would like to share it with pF. Rarely do we see a female soldier bust being produced since most armies do not deploy women for combat action. (do correct me if i am wrong, still learning ww2 history )

Since i am working on a male sniper (also russian), why not a female one

I asked the sculptor (Ella) about getting 1 and she replied a link to buy it will be available soon. Enjoy the pictures !

Nice idea and a pretty "half figure". Is the scale comparable with the 1/10 scale of other companies? Just some observations: The pose looks a bit stiff as if she is posing for a propaganda shot which fits to the way she is holding her rifle. The side view reveals a quite strong forehead. These things are anyway easy to fix if needed.

I was not aware that there are so many busts of German snipers on the market - but well the German-comment suits on nearly all occations.

It's great to see a seldom-seen subject like this get an outing, I only wish the hands were better. They're such an important part of the way this is presented they could do with being done to high standard.

Rompy - Western armies mostly didnt have females in frontline roles. Russian army however had female soldiers/snipers/drivers/nurses/field medics/partisans/fighter pilots/signallers and what not.

Its not based on any one in particular, just a collective theme (info from sculptor).

Example photo however highlights that rifle isnt to scale and problems with hands in the bust, amongst other minor issues.

Not sexual discrimanation in the CCCP, even in in the army. I want to recomend this book:

yes, I think that the size of the hands do not match with the size of the head. The way the hands hold the weapon reminds somewhat of the grip of "action-figures" compared to the pictures of the real "Nazi-killers" above. The same refers to the sit of the cap on the head of the bust. The face does not bear a strong similarity to any of the real persons shown so I think that Gaudin is right. Nevertheless I think that this is extreme nitpicking. The face is very nice as a generic face of the sniper theme and beforementioned nitpicks can be solved if anybody needs to further improve this bust.

It's hard to be sure from just these photos but they do look a little small (people do have smaller and larger hands of course). But my comment was mainly about their anatomy.

If you don't own a rifle or shotgun pose with a broom handle in front of a mirror and study your hands, you'll begin to see the way the hands naturally go when gripping something in this way. Since this isn't that obvious apparently* pay particular attention to the angle formed by the knuckles and the first joint of the fingers, and the way the fingers are canted.

*Sculptors regularly fail to notice it! This is why many model sculpts feature weak hands.

Th rifle needs some work. The bent bolt handle on the 91/30 PU needs to be thicker. Also the scope and mount looks like a modern offering. The WWII era 91/30 PU snipers had a side mounted scope. You can see some great images of the rifle here:
