I did not want to denigrate the sculpting or the quality of the casting.
Far from it.The painting is esquisit too.
However i'm not sure that i agree with the skinny and fit theory.
I'don't know if you are familiar witrh the remainings of the atlete of
Syracuse.This is the only complete skeletons of an olympians ever found.
I was a runner ,disc and javelin thrower.By the bones was discover that is muscles were very big and that is diet was rich in protein.Also in pottery paintings the warriors do not look too skinny and in greek classic sculpture
the muscle are very bulky.So if in those days there were people with those kind of body i think that for a Spartan would have been quite normal to have
wanted to reach that kind of "Phisical perfection".
However this is only my theory and if anyone know better i 'd love to
learn more on the subject.
