Hi Guys,

here's a piece that I've been working on for the past few weeks. What meant to be a simple conversion went overboard which resulted in what you see now. The head is a Hornet offering re-modelled a la Bill Horan and the accessories came from Tamiya. The barrel of the MP-40 broke off while I was attaching the arm to the body which I will re-attach before painting. Other than that comments anyone???

cheers,

Calvin

sure looks a great piece, Calvin!

especialy like the creases on the sleeves - looks like a well worn piece of kit.

Is the Helmet scatchbuilt?

And would I be right in thiking you've done some carving and refining on the ammo pouches?

cheers

Rob

The figure looks great. The helmet camo cover really
captures the look of the real thing. Is this for the Euro
this year???

There is a really good book about 'nordic' divisions of the waffen-ss, but it's only in italian ("Nordland" by Massimiliano Alfieri, Marvia Edizioni), which comes with some good pictures. If you need some photographic reference, just let me know.
Really fine figure.

Georgeous figure! Im glad your "simple converison" turned into what it did!

Love the folds on the arms, care to elaborate how you created them? Also, what type of putty do you use?

Hi guys,
Thank you for the encouraging feedback once again.

Yes Rob, the helmet is scratch build from thin sheets of rolled putty and the sides of the ammo pouches were refined with a surgical blade. I intending to fake the details through painting but my itchy fingers got the better of me.

Sorry to disappoint you Jaume, I don’t think this figure will painted for AMT but nonetheless I will try to get the all the sculpting done by then.

Taesung, I’m also hoping to make the trip to EM this year but that will have to depend if I have enough dough left from my AMT trip (the Euro is so strong now!) as well as time off from the Mrs and work ;-)

Anders, there’s no secret to creating the folds. It’s very similar to Taesung approach of carving and re-modelling with putty. Sounds painful? Yes it is but it yields the best results IMO. The putty I use is an indigenous brand found in Singapore and Malaysia called Bondite. It has the texture of regular Miliput and cures to the hardness of A&B. I hope that answers your questions and do feel free to shoot me with more.

Luca, thanks for your generous offer. I will check it out soon.

Gary, I don’t think I can match your level when it comes to “clean” work ;-)

Wong, looking forward to see your latest soon too!

cheers,

Calvin

As others have remarked the way you handle fabric and its folds is outstanding, even more for 1:35.

Maybe you find time for an sbs one day :). I'd like to see some more "I did it my way" images from you.

Hello Calvin,
It is your another piece of art in 1/35 scale.
You are really gifted person for such "simple" conversions ;)
I can't wait to see it finished!
All the best for you

Thanks for the kind words.
I'm glad that you like the work so far. I'm hoping to at least complete the detailing over this weekend and start painting after AMT. I will bring this figure to AMT of course and I think most modellers would appreciate this figure in it's unprimed state to study how simple I actually work.

Leigh, I'm also waiting to see your 120mm SS-Grenadier completed soon. I'm getting too impatient from imagining how great it would turn out ;)

Calvin...you've created an excellent piece...I love the folds..especially the sleeves, they look to have just the right volume of cloth.
Beautiful work in 1/35th. :) :)

All the best........Roy.
