I thought it would be good to have a little rest, distance from my sculpting for a little while and also have a go at the buste. Actually for some troubleshooting. Good Marc I sended a buste and I was afraid he had some work with the bubbles. I am glad he wants to try and I'm sure he will do a great job! :)

It appeared to have some little holes here and there and think it's wise to solve this first before any painting. Besides that, the junction of the neck to the torso needs to be hided and smoothened.

I love to do this with the original material which I use for sculpting, Fimo.

In this lid I have a little piece of fimo, softened with thinner.

most of the holes were gently touched by this substance with this idea after baking ( for small added volumes there is no 30 min required but 6 or 8 will do fine in the oven) ( and yes, thermo clay and resin get along fine in the oven) things can be polished with a proxxon.

the neck section.

the big doubt I have now is to finish him in acrylics or oils, or even both.
I like the 'feel' of acrylics but it's all about reverse engineering.
Maybe I shouldn't make a fuzz about it since I have some spare busts.

René,
Interesting technique using dissolved Fimo clay. Could you share the type of Fimo (soft, firm, etc) and the thinner used to generate Fimo liquid paint? Thanks. Chris

thermoclays like sculpey, fimo react on thinner.

I use the bottle everyone must have at home, it's the type to clean brushes.
You can solve a whole piece of fimo ( soft or classical variant doesn't matter) into a firm but fluent substance and use it for filling up.
For little repairs I take a small bit of fimo in the lid, softened locally to control the density.

after a while the thinner will leave the clay and get back to it's own habits.
Meaning one can polish by finger and brushes.
This will take care of the most anoying holes and striking things.
In the end there is always a discrapancy you didn't notice ( best seen after undercoating) and than I change to Vallejo acrylic putty. After undercoating the buste can't be in the oven ofcours.

be aware of ventilating your room when doing this, take a little pot on which you close the lid temperarely when doing other things on your figure.

Hi René,
This just keeps getting better. The paint you have layed down so far has elavated your sculpture to another level. Keep up the good work.

Richie,
thank you very much! I am fond of making lightplans and tripplechecking things before ruining anything.
