Preparing a war version of Rolf Steiner.

The base of it will be some earlier work:

I would be nowhere with the good accompagny of Steave Ready who will work out the butt Steiners ppsh and the pe work of Tomislav ( the battle dress is full of badges and thought it would do good having them detailed)

time in time again people ask me where to get such tremendously well etched detail and I keep on passing on Toma's email.

feel free to contact him. Good quality/ communication needed for measurements, ah, you'll find out yourself.

these are the badges, tags Toma created. They almost made me cry of joy :)

I realize, having made a start with the topic I still have to do it!

Hi René,
Just watched "Cross Of Iron" today as I was off work. Can't wait to see him in all his regalia. I could not help thinking of your sculpture when watching the film(y)
cheers
Richie

it's a great movie and oftenly not mentioned when discussing the great ones.

as a child I couldn't help to see the bathtub scene..was burned on my irisses.
Little did I know that time about creating my Steiner :)

guys,

thanks!

hello rene
nice bust by the way and nice made etched decorations but german dog tags never contained the name of the soldier
only the unit was marked the service number and the blood group not more.
so the tag with rolf steiner is incorrect.
maybe aneger again some chaps that one points out such detailös
be assured its not evil spirit-
cheers

hahahaHA:)

I will see what I can do about it...
My eye just wondered if some kind of typewriterfont would be better.

Dankeschön!

tag could be mounted to the plinth or just an smidgen of putty over the engraved name and some darker paints to simulate some numbers stamped on it
other than on americn tags the german tags give no hint to name of soldier
the numbers and code are this days registered by the WAST an official part of the Kreigsgräberfürsorge.
so they can tags which are unearthed with the bones and remains still trace to the indicvidual man.this because the german documents like Stammrollen ect are still left.
german tags are made from high quality nickle steel and nearly never corrode away.
your painting levels did increase too drastically.
your steiner bust is very high quality.
cheers

thank you Markus.

I just downloaded some typewriter fonts and they already look more authentic.
Gosh, I even have a carbontype now..

but regarding Steiner, considering his role..
what do you think litteraly could be written on the tag?

it's really easily changed on the tag, no putty :cautious:

Gruß,

der R.

hello rene
yes thats the kind on Steiner.the Steiner character serves in an infantry unit 1943.the film is bqased on the novel DAS GEDUKDIGEFLEISCH or the endurable flesh
it could read
stammnummer or number of soldier and can do up to four digits 3678 for instance
then an Infantry Reg after your liking just check the net whih units where present summer 43 in russia
because the Steiner character wears white piping for infantry
the lower half carries the same data
it was broken in half one half remained on the fallen the other was retrieved and delivered to the regiments clerks to registrate the fallen.
so an half mark is surely that of an dead
nice idea with the war version
will surely look sharp
cheers

in case people might wonder how the name of Rolf Steiner got there in the first place on the tag...

..I plea guilty.

Neglecting historical whereabouts regarding the dogtag proposed by Tomislav, I thought it would be nice to let him wear his name on it.
For eventual filmfreaks who were interested maybe nice gadget but in a historical view o so wrong.

Seeing the tag and also the readability of the fonts makes me changing my thoughts ( happens sometimes) and hoped people had some suggestions to help me out a bit so I can give PROPER INSTRUCTIONS to my supplier.

Markus,
thanks for your considerations!

Toma,

you rule.

Rene,

get a rest
