Hi to you all, I am looking for help with small stencilling on figures and busts. I am painting the 300mm figure by John Rosengrant and there is quite a lot of writing on back packs gas mask water bottle etc and I am hopeless, I just keep messing up. I have just bought the new RAF pilot bust by Sang Yeon Lee and that also has lots of stecilling. I have just ordered some 1/10 scale German decals from Peddinghouse decals but no one does US insignia. The question is do i use stencils and who does them small enough,or does anyone do decals. sorry to go on but i do need help, all the the best Roy

Some of these might help but depends on scale/size;

The latter are sheets of generic letters etc in varying scripts and sizes.

Also from around 3 years ago there were these decals from arms corps models featured on PF;

Ok they were intended for the Young Mins USMC Bust 1968 but maybe there are or might be similar products around perhaps depending on demand. The RAF Pilot from Life I would guess is going to be very popular.

Note that you can print your own decals using blank decal paper and an inkjet or laser printer.

Design the thing in Powerpoint, or some fancier drawing tool, print, cut out and use as any standard decal. You can make whatever you need and get the scale exactly right. It's most suitable for the larger scales, because the print resolution limit is less visible.
You can even touch up the decal with paint if you like.
Only problem is most printers don't print in white. To get around this, you could do a negative print, basically printing the colour around the white parts, and place it on the white-painted object. You're going to need this for your grenade lettering I think.

I've tried this method to make insignia for my Schwartzkopf figure and it worked OK.

Thanks for your help. I have quite a few figures on the go at the moment, us and German in scales 1/16 1/8 and 300mm all need insignia. I am really surprised more people dont do decals as i am sure they would go down a bomb. I am really struggling with the us gas mask markings on my John Rosengrant 300 mm figure, I have thought of using some sort of paint mask but dont know how, cheers everyone roy.

Try Hudson and Allen. they made some nice decals for both US and German figures in 1:35 and 120 mm, maybe in other scales too.

Regards Lars
