Denison-orama!....

Okay, the denison smock has a pretty complex camouflage design but, like most things if it is broken down to simpler, smaller steps it is a lot easier. ( but still time consuming ).

The other really useful thing to have is some solid reference. Google denison smock, do a little digging and you can find a couple of front/back and detail examples...

A. I started with the basic fabric colour shaded and highlighted.

B. First the brown was laid down using AV Mahogany Sand + AV Burnt Umber at 2:1 diluted at 3:1 with a measure of flow enhancer to allow for even glazing.

C. Then the greens were laid down using AV Luft. Cam. Green + AV USA Olive Drab at 2:1 diluted at 3:1 again with a measure of flow enhancer.

D. Highlighting with a very diluted base fabric colour ( AV English Uniform plus AV Light Flesh at 1:1 )

E. Shading with AV Burnt Umber to tie it back to the base fabric.

F. Final run over all the hard undercuts and seams with a diluted AV Ger. Cam. Blk. Brown and a retouch of the highlight to finish off...

That is very good indeed Mark, your painting on the denison is simply superb and your progress as a painter is amazing. The improvement is there for all to see.
