WIP Stormtroopers British Infantryman, Spain.

My take on Stormtroopers latest release in their range of large scale busts sculpted by Carl Reid. This one depicts a British infantryman in Spain. It’s a fantastic sculpt and very characterful and I think it captures beautifully the campaign look of the period. I know the box indicates this figure could be 88th Foot and there was a lot of valuable discussion/info around the lace on the release thread questioning that so I spent a bit of time looking through my Franklin British Napoleonic uniforms and the MAA Wellingtons Peninsula Regiments (1) and the Europa Militaire Wellington’ Army in colour photos and opted to go for the 27th (Enniskillen) Regt. I thought I’d cracked it with this choice then realised my references suggested the cross belt plate and probably the shako plate would have had the castle emblem on peculiar to the Regiment. It was surprising when I started looking how many regiments seemed to have either regimental motifs or numbers on either or both these items. By this point I was too far into it to change so I’m just going to imagine that due to the rigours of campaign he’s had to pick up a miscellaneous shako and cross belts to replace his worn out items (at least that’s the story I’m sticking to!!!!). Painted in oils over acrylic. A few bits of tidying up to do but a thoroughly enjoyable piece.

Geez, the darn thing only came out last week Neil, and you finished him already. Great job of painting. Waiting for mine to cross the pond, but searching my Franklin and other refs for a regiment and that's always fun for me. As you say many different shako plate and belt plate varations.

Many thanks clrsgt. This lockdown/tiered restrictions business means I’ve got plenty of time on my hands and when it dropped through the door I couldn’t resist making a start. I was considering painting it up as a member of the 4th (Kings Own) which is one of my local regiments and they served in the Peninsula but I fancied a change from the red and blue combo and wanted to try a different facing colour. Hope yours arrives soon.

Not quick at much else these days Mike!! Really enjoyable piece and look forward to seeing what you’ve got in mind for it. I might go back and add a bit of something in the pipe end to represent the tobacco or even a wisp of smoke, not sure yet.

Many thanks Bob. I sat reading the Franklin book and just when I thought I’d set on a possible choice of regiment to depict it threw up some individual regimental distinctions and it would be back to the drawing board. A minefield as you say but interesting reading nonetheless.

Sorry folks, PEDANTRY ALERT!

Neal it is the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment. The regiment was raised in Enniskillen, but always used the Anglicised phonetic spelling of the of the old Gaelic Inis Ceithleann. Same goes for the Dragoons; always Inniskilling.
