Hey, I think I have completed something...maybe. Stormtroopers bust with a few mods. I angled his head a little more to make it look like he was turning away from a blast of snow. Added some tears to the coat and head covering,I was greatly inspired by Smudger1960's treatment of this bust (http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38578 )

I wanted mine to be somewhere between his and the box art. I had to add some material to the back of the head in the neck area because of the angle change. I also cut off and changed the direction that a couple of the flaps of white sheet were blowing, to reinforce the feeling of a gusting wind. I also added the wound tag. I just printed off both sides of one I found a picture of on the net (front and back) glued them together, added a piece of stiff wire, and voila!a flapping tag. One red stripe meaning he is transportable, he should probably have no stripe, meaning that he could march. But I think the red strip adds a little interest. Who knows what damage he had below the belt???!!!

I also added the sling going to the MP40 from under his arm, and added a loop to the rear where it attaches to the gun, using Magic Sculp. I also used MS to give him a bandaged wound. The snow is a mix of baking soda and Hudson and Allen snow attached using white glue mixed with uniform color paint that I stippled on with a old brush, then sprinkled the snow on. I put the majority on one side to reinforce the feel of blowing snow.

Primarily painted with acrylics, I airbrushed the base colors and did some shadows and highlights with oils. I think it turned out OK, though I am still an oil paints kinda guy. The base is a resin base that came with a SOL bust, painted black with a spray can. Real brass shell casing used for the plinth (Remington 35 cal)

Sorry the pics aren't the greatest, but an 8 year old digital camera and no photo set up isn't the best recipe for good pics. Thanks for looking, all commentary, good bad or indifferent, is welcome.

9 "thumbs-up" , my friend (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y) !!!!!!!!!
That is one Awesome piece of painting and composition.
Bravo  !
Kenneth.

I like this a lot.
the changes you have made really make him look more desperate.
The bandaged eye looks very realistic as does him cowering from the gale.
I do like weathered soldiers and for me this seals the bust as a great piece.
Very well presented overall.

Hi Jason,
Very nice work, I think you have improved the figure and made it your own with the changes you have incorporated. Changing the angle of the head makes it so much more dymanic.Nice touch with label. You certainly get a 5 star rating from me.
cheers
Richie

Hi jason, first of all many thanks for the kind words,i'm glad my piece was an inspiration to you its one of my favourites in my collection,i love what you have done to your piece as well,i feel this type of bust needs a few extras to bring it to life and you have certainly achieved it here,i remember youre post on my piece where you said the addition of a wound tag would look good and i see you have added yours and it looks great.
I hope you enjoyed painting the piece as much as i did.

Happy Painting - Brian (y)

Thanks everyone. I'm a firm believer that starting with a good figure is 80 percent of the battle to achieve a good result, and obviously the Stormtroopers bust is a great figure from the start. I almost added a helmet to this guy, but decided to keep him as close to stock as I could, and still make some small changes to make him unique. I can't say I will stick to acrylics for flesh tones (I do like having hours to blend, blend, and blend some more with oils) but I am glad I finally managed something that I can look at without thinking "could have been much better with oils". Thanks again for looking and commenting. Onward and upward!
Cheers
Jason

Really nice work Jason.
I love your slight modifications. The wound tag and the one-sided snow very convincingly give the impression of awful winter weather. The wound is very realistic.
I love when personalizing something makes it stand out. You've certainly managed that.

Cheers,
Adrian
