I thought it would be interesting to see from our responses how much encouragement and support we really receive from our wives and girlfriends.

Rock your opinion poll (survey ?) are very sympatic ;) . I have the chance to have a wife who helps and advises me, without she I will not be able to continue my hobby

Well, I kind of had to answer "no support" to the specific question. However, the answer does apply to my husband. While he doesn't discourage my painting, he doesn't encourage it either. Meh. I neither encourage nor discourage his playing of computer games and the PS2, so we're even.

By the way, please don't think I am offended by the way in which the question is framed. I realize women painters are few and far between. :)

.Wendy, please forgive me for the way I framed the question, I will correct it right away. ;)

As far as support from my wife, I don't know if it's really support , maybe she is just humoring me.

Cheers
Roc.

Hm, it depends on what I am doing at the moment. Sculpting monstes and mayhem, no support (and phrases like: When I see this crap I could through it away!), doing some work on female figures or cuty comic characters, I have the best hobby in the world. Really scary!

Hey Wendy.... Iam here with you.... I can tell you guys that my husband
supports me 200% in this hobby and in my other hobby, dollhouses, which
is on the back burner for now. He is right by my side all the time, so to speak. At
times that can be a bit much and some people tell me I should be thankful
and I am; but it gets a little crowded in my workroom. He is my biggest fan.
I do appreciate him being so supportive.

I have always wondered how many gals are in this hobby ??
I have asked Guy and hes gone through a few names. But it
sounds like there are not too many of us.

I am very lucky. My spouse even suggests figures to paint and buys me whatever figure I may need for my Brthday or Xmas. At Xmas I give her a list of stuff at different price ranges and she usually gets me whatever she wants that she can afford to purchase. She also helps me with some colour selections. She also points out things that she may not like.
My wife Quilts for a Hobby. I go to her quilt shows and she goes to my Figure Shows. She has also suggested that she might like to try painting flats? When she gets some time.

John, you are a lucky man, it appears to me you have a perfect marriege. ;)
It's really great having so much support.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Wouldnt it be nice if there were an award at some show for "Best supporting spouse"?

Every Figureteer had to nominate their spouse with lets say 100 words why the should have the award and let a grand jury decide.

I like this idea. And the winners get and all expense paid trip to the next EuroMilitare, right?

I will have to say my wife is extremely supportive of me and my hobby. She quite often travels out of the country and always asks me to provide her with a list of shops and directions on how to get to them from her hotel. She has brought back some beautiful figures that are no longer available and she has found in remote Hobby Shops around the world.

She also came home one day from doing some local shopping and handed me a carefully wrapped bag of paint brushes. She had been into Michaels and they were running a 40% off all brushes. She bought 160 dollars worth of brushes for around 90 dollars. They were all sizes I used, so she knew what to buy.

She has asked me to keep a desktop listing (she would have easy access to) of the figures I would like to have.(Christmas & Birthdays)

My wife is also my best critic (sometimes brutally) and likes to look at each figure I complete. As I have alot of figures arriving throughout the month she has never questioned me or complained about so many figures or how much they cost. Being retired now and also painting figures, I quite often take some (notice "SOME") of the money received from painting for collectors and use it toward projects around the house.

Remembering back to what it was like with my ex-wife, and total non-support of the hobby, I would have to say the support is well appreciated.

My wife has also helped others over the internet set up mail accounts, how to use google, etc and is the "House Guru" when it comes to computers.

Well, usually, someone will say Marion Ball, and maybe one or two more, then his voice trails off (if it's possible to do in text). So no, not too many of us. Francesca (she has a vbench) has some cool stuff. :)
