Swedish Hautboist 1718, 54 mm original.

Hello
Finished this a while ago. Yet another Swedish Carolean from The Great Nordic War. This time a Houtboist from Dalregementet at the time of the disastrous Norwegian Campaign 1718.


It all started with an Oboe from Historex range and a head from Mussini

I use Magic sculp and green stuff for sculpting and it is all painted in acrylics as usual. Hope you like it.

I didn't see this, myself, at first glance, but I think Pascal may be correct, on closer look, they look just a hair short. But as I said, I didn't catch this, till I looked very closely at the photo. Very impressive sculpt, to start with the head and the oboe and produce the hautboist. Great subject, too, not too much from the Swedish army.

I don't think I agree on the shoes critique as in the main picture his feet are about 1 head long. Isn't that about the anatomical standard? Perhaps they look short as an optical illusion as they are very heavy footwear?

Thanks all, I'm glad you like it. About the shoes: I've had my concerns regardiing them myself. From some angles they seem just a bit too small. But not from others. I've measured them and they are within reasonable size. So I guess it's a kind of optical illusion. The head on the other hand is a little on the large side and gives him a slight "top heavy" appearance.

An appearence on C4 is very likely for this figure, yes. I think Janne is pulling something together for the show.

Regarding the issued shoes it has been noted that they where rather short at this period. Also the average length in scandinavina went down to below 170cm while at the viking age where around 180cm thus probably resulting in smaller feets as well?
Heres a picture of the preserved boots of Karl XII(Charles XII) at the Swedish Royal Armory.
