Hi to one and all,

Linjo models are a Chinese company making a big impression on the modelling community , not least for the choice of subjects and the quality of the products ...and they have done it again IMO with the latest release.

Before we move onto the model , a bit of research led me to find some facinating facts about the very distinctive armour which is modelled on this release:

Shan wen kia, or “mountain pattern armour" was worn by high ranking officers from the Tang to the Ming dynasties It is similar to the Japanese yamamichi-gashira armour . The pattern is sometimes known as "Chinese star scale".

Construction is said to be accomplished by overlapping these scales and securing with rivets , with the scale pattern being built up by overlapping to achieve the style , once completed the edges are secured with leather .

For further research can I suggest the following :

The Army of Tang China by Karl Ranitzsch (Montvert Publications) ISBN 1874101 04 3 .

Imperial Chinese Armies by C J Peers (Osprey MAA 295) isbn 1 85532 599 3

Moving onto the model itself , which truely celebrates the power of the Tang senior Officers .

Subject Title: Tang Dynasty General

Scale : 200mm

Material : Resin

Reference Number : LJ 20011

Sculptor : Chun MeiZhou

Box Art : Hongwei Qin

On opening up this review model which is as before packed in an extremely strong cardboard box , a distinctive black with a full colour picture on the front of a painted model , colour representation being very clear and great reference.

On opening the box up I found that all the box was full with 9 pieces (cast in a cream resin) which is safely kept in place by pieces of foam ..great news as this provides more than ample protection with no worry about broken parts

The model itself consists as said of 9 pieces , the torso (includes head) the helmet , the helmet "wings" x 2 , the horse hair piece for the top of the helmet , the trident finial which goes on top plus 2 "teeth" which fits onto the shoulder armour and of course a pedastal base , casting plugs are evident but as with others in the range easily removed , and whats more impresive I could find no mould lines anywhere ( quality shines through on casting) ..ask yourself how awkward is it to remove these ..no worry here ..really good news .

Looking now at the main piece the body/head , in one word simply superb , casting is absolutely really well done , a credit to the sculptor and to Linjo .

He is sculpted wearing the armour described , fine details in all areas , love the shoulder details , , undercutting is very well done , defintion great , all of which will make the painting a joy .

Lets the pictures show the quality and tell the story ........

On now to the detalis that have been incorporated into the model :

Firstly the face , full of character , a flowing beard , all details are very cleanly done in particular the eyes this will be an absolute pleasure to bring life into .

The armour , well let the pictures speak for themselves , this is IMO nothing short of a total joy and satisfaction to look at and handle .

Prepare to look in awe!!!!

Moving onto the helmet itself and the pieces that fit on it :

The helmet is again well sculpted , a casting plug needs to be removed , once done fit is spot on , with only a miniscule amout of filler needed around the base , although to be honest it is so minute then a primer would probably be enough .

The next pieces are securely held in a clear plastic bag :

Fitting onto the sides are 2 "wings" , little bit of cleaning up needed but no hard woek needed resulting a 2 fine pieces which add to the final look of the helmet (these have been researched from various images and documents) .

On the top of the helmet we have the horsehair piece , fit is 1st class especially at the back .

Then to fit on top we have the finial in the shape of a trident , so often seen in ancient manuscripts , a small amount of flashing is evident easily removed with a modelling knife (careful!!) this also acts to avoid anything breaking off of this delicate part .

Also in the plastic bag is 2 "teeth" or claws which need to be fitted to the tops of each shoulder armour .
