Incidentally, in the course of doing this diorama I have found that the best French Lebel rifles are the ones made by Bruno Liebovitz of Metal Modeles. So, I sent an e-mail to Bruno asking if I could purchase some and he graciously responded to the positive. He also makes the best French Chassepots around. I have to say what a great thing it is to have so many supportive manufacturers that can respond like this. I also must add that Vincent Wai of Alpha Image has been equally responsive on something else I was interested in. Every manufacturer (Andrea, Fusilier, Pegaso, Michael Roberts, etc) that I have ever dealt with on this basis over the years has been very forthcoming where-ever possible. I hope this is true for others as well.

I think I can speak for most of my fellow modelers and state that this type of customized service is greatly appreciated and of inestimable value.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate your comments, yes I've seen the Spoinkop piece , once in a while I will flick through Bill's book for a bit of inspiration.
Actually it's good to know that manufacturers are willing to help even if it's only a few weapons or accessories that you're wanting. Now if I could only get hold of some decent British new land pattern muskets I'd be right, the Historex ones are way too large.

Bob, yes it's just a later version of the Brown Bess, you can see it differs slightly, this is from an issue of regiment magazine and has some very good information on weapons and equipment.

Leigh, I made the masters for the 54mm and 120mm "Brown Bess" sold by Michael Roberts. I do plan on doing more I'm just not sure when.~Gary

Below is a close-up of a 80mm Hessian Jager rifle I made. The acutal model is 1 7/8" long.

Great work there Gary, weapons are a whole different ballgame. Were you able to look at the real thing and measure them so as to have a starting point .
I thought you had done the Micheal Roberts weapons but as I said I thought they were all 120mm.
I haven't gotten around to contacting Mike Stelzel yet but will do so soon.

Mike has an ever expanding line of 54mm figures, and accessories. Some of the figures are sculpted by Kwang Youl Lee, and they are terrific. I bought four of the muskets sculpted by Gary. They are terrific, well sculpted and cast.

Beautiful job on the Hessian rifle Gary. There is a terrific museum not far from here that has a big collection of firearms, including many of these jaeger rifles.

Leigh, I always take a photo of the weapon I'm doing and and reduce it down to the scale size I'm working on. The reduced photocopy serves as a guide and template when I start constructing the stock.~Gary

John, Thanks a lot. The Valley Forge visitors center has a nice little collection of weapons on view, and it's right across the street from the MFCA show.~Gary
