One question. All oils ?

Costas

Hi Dimitrios,
I admire the speed and far more I admire the quality of painting on your figures. Her again you did extremely well on this nice bust from Pegaso. Beautiful whites and red jacket. The face is fantastic, nice tanned skin, very warm to look at. Dimitrios I wish you a comfort finish on this one, keep motivating us(y)

Hi Dimitri!!
Actually it's a lot of really good start and the red jackets are fantastic.
Waited anxiously to finish this beautiful bust.

Wow. Thank you all for your kind comments. Really motivates me to keep on pushing this one. Carl the Bust is from Pegaso sculpted by Victor Konov. Kostas i ve given up oils for quite some time now cause i couldnt stand the shinny look of them, so everything here is acrylics. Thank you all again.

David, Peter , Serkan thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Costa i dont paint with Vallejo wich i know are very popular so i dont know if the recipies will really help but for what is worth for the red:
basecoat crimson red + ultramarine blue
1st highs base + scarlet
2nd lights base + scarlet + vermilion
1st shadows base + pthalo green
2nd shadows base + phalo green + black
For the whites i used a color named smoked pearl by sjojona's acrylics. Highs adding titanium white. 1st shadows adding a bit of sepia and 2nd shadows adding sepia plus raw umber. Hope it helps.

Costa i always use a mix of sjojona's and turnrer acrylic gouache. The latter brand is from japan i think and has the mattest finish i ve ever seen in my life. If your interested let me know so i can send you the adress of the dealer in athens. And here is a little progress on the bust.

Well i ve decided that if i m gonna spend some time with this one why not try to push it a little bit. Glad to hear the work pays off. Thank you for your comments Carl. always appreciated.

Dimitri are you going to use oils on the belt ? Because it seems you are at a basecoat, and i am sure you will add more contrast and efects . Or you will go along with acrylics all the way ?

Costa i think about giving a try with acrylics and if that doesnt work run to the refuge of oils!!!

Well painting leather with acrylics can be done beautifully and impressively , but need more work than oils. If you look at Diego Ruina's works with acrylics you can see this. You need more tricks and more layers of colours, some glazes and some tipping tapping tricks to achieve nice results , but can be done !
