Looks fantastic so far. Very subtle highs and lows... very smooth and not overdone, very natural.
Good luck with the bugle/banner... looks like it could be a bear

Following with interest

There is one thing I will not do again  that is ever attach a figure to a base before painting

Why do you say that Ron? I do it all the time and find that it makes the figure much easier to hold (and consequently paint). I never used to fix 'em to the base, but I'd find it hard to go back now I think.

Of course there's no 'right' way or 'wrong' way - only the way that works for the individual. I'm just interested in your take on that.

Great start to the figure by the way. I'm sure it will look superb once finished.

Steve It makes it difficult to paint under long coats and such ,albeit not in this case .

There is a fair bit that needs to be painted before assembly ,just hoping it all goes together once the paint is on  don't like doing test runs once the painting is under way with metal figures as the smallest slip usually results in paint chip off ,I have couple more of these gems lined up and General Colbert from the atelier market range this has even more gold lace on it :)

Looks great. More pictures please.

will post more in due course but I think the trumpet and banner will take about a week or so between various coats and drying time ,can't really progress the figure till this is done as the said assembly needs to be attached to the right hand and arm before fixing to the figure ,then the nightmare of the sabre to hand and fixing the sword slings :)
It is a superb casting but not one that can be hurried ,I will probably start something else just to stop me from pushing it before it is properly dry .
