Thanks Joe for the thread, really work of madness !
Sport in general give some fantastic results (like Bill Horan with baseball).
Markus, with paint it will be a great piece i think.

Marcus, Nice work. I thought of Francesca's work the minute I saw the thread. It's nice to see this thread has not gotten all wrapped up in the pose and or subject being copied. If that's the case ALL sculptors need to start tracking down the origin of the sculptor that did a figure with their hands on their hips or firing a musket etc. Because it would only be right to thank them and give them proper credit. These days there are few figures anymore that are totally unique in subject and pose. I think it's a little silly to make such a fuss over such a thing. ~Gary

Hello Friends,

thank you all very much for looking and commenting. I really appreciate all your feedbacks and reflections.

About the figure:

• It is a 75mm figure - sorry I forgot the sacle...
• Yes, it will be a commercial piece...I will inform you when it is casted.

@Wendy: Thank you for offering your help about the gear. It would be nice to get some of your pics, because I can never get oenough of them. My time of active playing hockey (right defender) has ended 15 years ago...

@Joe: Thanks for the link to Francescas work - I´m a big fan of her works !!!

Take care,
Markus

What happened to Francesca? Long time ago we've heard of her.
I started a new job and haven't sculpted or painted in months and months. As a result, I stopped reading most of the forums regularly. Just cyclic, I guess. I'll come back to things eventually, I hope.

I'll say the same basic thing here that I said elsewhere since you brought it up. I don't know why Markus picked that particular pose to depict - perhaps he was asked to by his client, perhaps he really, really just liked it. And that's totally fine - no one needs to justify anything to me. Because, obviously, I did not invent the "save" pose. A search on google for "goalies" will probably return hundreds of photos of players making similar saves. Markus posted his reference picture of Patrick Roy and it's an excellent representation of that photo.

However, personally (and this is my opinion only), I would have liked to have seen a different pose precisely because there *aren't* many hockey figures out there. Hockey is a high-impact, fast and energetic sport and therefore that leaves a lot of possibilities for dynamic poses - possibly more than any other sport. I'd like to take advantage of that fact and sculpt more of them myself, and I think we as a hobby can only benefit when others do so as well. If not only for the sake of variety, but also because another sculptor might develop a technique or solution to a random problem that would be useful to others. That's how we all learn and is part of the fun of chatting on the forums and socializing at the shows. I've hit lots of people up for suggestions as to how to solve a sculpting/painting problem and people have done the same to me. It's part of what keeps everything "moving" in the hobby, I think.

I just want to be clear this is NOT a personal attack in any way. Markus knows that I think he's talented, and I know that he likes my work too. We've emailed before and we're on fine terms. And anyone who knows me personally also knows that I'm probably the least malicious person in the hobby. It is simply my opinion that a different pose would have been more fun overall. FWIW, I absolutely love the following idea, but I won't do it because McFarlane Toys already did: http://www.mcfarlane.com/toys/media...pe=photo&file=nhl4_ikovalchuk_photo_01_dp.jpg
However, someone else may want to try a variation on it and that's fine. We're all entitled to different opinions.

That's really all I have to say. I look forward to seeing this figure completed and painted, as well as whatever new things Markus has on the bench.

Francesca
