A really nice figure and paint job (and perhaps it's the camera angle?) but the 'kite' shield seems a bit small for the figure?
Gary

Hi Gary, I had several different sizes for a kite shield, most were 20 to 24 inches wide and 40 to 48 inches tall, although a lot were made depending on the size of the person. I did this shield to average dimensions. I think the picture is not the best angle to show it but the shield goes from the top of his shoulder to his knee.
hope this helps

Quality paint job this and it is a nice sculpt as well as I mentioned in the other thread. Regarding the shield is a subjective really there is a school of thought/degree of evidence that the English used the round shields similar to the Vikings as opposed to the kite shields but no concrete evidence either way. It could be argued that Harold having spent so long in Normandy may have become a fan of the kite shield anyway.

Steve we had a few discussions regarding the shield and thought the same as you, I suppose I could have done 2 shields, a kite and a round one and leave it up to the modeller as to which one he uses.

Nice sculp.. Going on a wish ... Must have list

Round shield please..

56 years old (should read young), I was brought up with the knowledge that Saxons had round shields

Thank you all for your kind comments. Hope this gives a better view of the shield for you. At this period of time many Saxons had adopted the kite shield as shown on the bayeux tapestry,
