After several frustrating delays, I am proud to announce that my book on one of our hobby's greatest artists and innovators if finally available from Schiffer Publishing: SHEPERD PAINE: THE LIFE AND WORK OF A MASTER MODELER AND MILITARY HISTORIAN.

A gorgeously produced hardcover of more than 270 pages, it includes upwards of 700 photos (most in color) and nearly 130,000 words of text charting, for the first time, every piece that Shep did during his modeling career. The book is just now filtering into brick-and-mortar stores, and is not yet available from the most popular online bookstore, but the best place to buy it -- and the only place to get copies signed by Shep and me -- is via MMSI President and online entrepreneur Mike Cobb's Web site, Militaire Promotions, at http://www.milprom.com/Books/Sheperd_Paine.htm.

We hope you'll consider adding this book, a true labor of love, to your Christmas wish list!

Jim, this is one magnificent book. The photos are of course invaluable but the format is superb. The running interview with Paine concerning his work, his inspirations and innovations are worth the cost even if no photos accompanied them. Well done!

Shep Paine's Book

I suggest anyone interested in the hobby should buy this book NOW. The text, photos, color, and sheer volume of figures and interviews with long-time painters covered in this work are outstanding to say the least. It will not stay in print forever and will become very expensive when it's out of print.

Aside from being able to see the book being offered by a vendor at a show, are any of the major book chains going to be carrying it? No offense, but after buying the Horan book marketed by Andrea sight unseen, expensive books have left a sour taste in my mouth unless I can flip through the pages first to determine the quality or lack thereof. ~Gary

Shep's Book

You'll rarely find Schiffer publications on sale although you may want to check Amazon. In any event you will not be disappointed in the quality of this book. Photography, color, and every printing aspect are excellent. You can buy this one sight unseen and not worry.

I have three books of Shep. What i have seen sofar on the internet is in the previous books of Shep.
I wonder if it is worth the money.

Marc

I'm hoping too this is not a compilation of his previous books into one with just better quality pics.

I bought the Horan book after knowing about the flaws it had. But I still would still like to
thumb through this one before shelling out big $'s.

If you order three books (any mix of books) directly from Schiffer they knock off 20 percent.

While many of Shep's most famous pieces have been seen in his how-to books -- the photography, figures, diorama and armor books -- this book is the first to include all of them in one place, with many photos even of familiar pieces that have not been published before, and many other pieces (from single figures to box dioramas) that have not been seen at all, anywhere in print. We were of course conscious of people knowing and loving his earlier books, and we kept that in mind throughout this project. But as a career overview and catalog of his life's work, it really is quite different, and with much better and larger photo reproduction than the earlier books.
