Hi Keith,

Good to see you painting and a real nice choice as well , looking good nice work showing in all areas especially the hat ...now just strip it and paint it using the hallowed acrylics !!...he he ...seriously doing a good job mate ....

The vision of Sir Oliver Hardy on a bike ...need to be in a dark room!

Enjoy your day whatever you do

Thanks for sharing looking forward to seeing more

Nap

You cheeky chappy Kevin,
Mind you I do wear a balaklava when I go out so as not to frighten the children.
I'm pleased that you like my acrylic paintwork.....that medium drys so quickly. Trying out the lots of very thin coats method on the face, it is coming along but a way to go just yet.
Today the guys that run the asylum chalet park here are cooking for us, paella washed down with a measure of vin rouge I think. so not too many km's on the bike today.
Hope that al is well with you and Mrs Nap.
Thanks for your kind comments Mate, always makes me grin when you drop in.
Keith

Really nice, Keith! The bicorn is superb!

All the best,
Dan
Hi Dan,
Thank you for taking the time to drop in and make such kind comments.
The bicorn is not all I wanted it to be but that is always the way when you look back and think that you could have done it differently.
I hope that your 3 cavalrymen piece is progressing well. I'm looking forward to your next post.
Cheers,
Keith

Hi Keith.Brilliant.
Watching Les Meserables while typing this.
You wouldn't have any in progess shots per chance? The Verlinden busts may be old but I love them. They are priced right and generally fun and very forgiving, when the paint has to stripped.
Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,
I am pleased that you like this bust and my efforts to paint it.
Yet another pF member who sees something in the old Verlinden castings. We seem to be quite a few in number.
As for in progress photo's; I haven't taken any, thinking that this is a very basic one piece casting with a sculpted bicorn made from a Milliput disc. The swan feather effect was made again made from Milliput rolled into a sausage and lightly pressed into the edges of the bicorn. This and the other other decorations were shaped using an xacto blade ad two rods of different sizes for the gold lace trim.
I hope that this is the sort of info that you were looking for Mate?
All the best,
Keith

Keith, I must have had a blond moment, and didn't realise you'd sculpted the hat, I'm even more impressed. I am sure that if you did it again as an SBS, you would get a lot of interest?
Best wishes, Gary.

No worries Gary my whole life is a blond period following retirement and and house renovation in France.
I am currently on a bit of a holiday for four months in the south of this beautiful country. I just picked up this Guy as I was leaving along with my four colour pallet virtually as I was leaving. So no decent camera or light source. I never gave an SBS a thought.
The hat was using a lot of the methods that Colin (crf} showed in his 11th Hussar SBS. He has some really good tricks in his armory.
Good to hear from you Mate,
All the very best,
Keith

Hi Keith,
Just trawling though the posts my old mate and saw this picture on the side, I thought it was a CRF build at first. Anyway, you have made a great job on the head gear and the painting is coming along just fine, nice too see you are getting more comfortable with the acrylics. Are you going all acrylics or oils over the top?????? I'm definitely with you for converting some of the older Verlinden pieces, they still have great scope, just need to see what is there rather than what is not.(y)
Looking forward to the end results.:) I agree with Gary, an SBS would have been great, I'm still plucking up the courage to try your Tartan SBS.
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie,
I hope all is well with you and the clan up there.
Yes an SBS would have been good but the piece for me has little to offer in the way of painting and there are far better Guys than I to demo painting techniques. I am glad that you mentioned CRF. I somehow had him in the back of my mind throughout this painting and when I looked at the sculpt and the paint work, like you I could see some likeness but without the class . I am really locked in to limited colour pallet at the moment and having done the oils this is my first Acrylic try. My low est pallet to date was on a one hour large (life size) horses head in just Black and white.
I have seen some tartan darting about in the Zulu Wars so you should get on and have a go.....you are more than up to it.
Thanks for you kind comments mate and always good to hear from you,
Keith

Very nice keith , have a few glasses of vino collapso for me (y)

Cheers Ron,
I will be in touch to see what you can offer in the plinth dpartment, once I know how I want it finished.
Vino collapso for you commenced, my word you can't half put them away Ron:love:

All the very best,

Keith

Very imaginative labelling. Great overall effect Keith.
Thank you Colin.
I was quite pleased with the outcome of the flag. I have some detailed trumpet banners in mind and would like to paint them freehand so as to keep the thickness realistic. So this is a practice.
