That looks to be coming along nicely Anne.

Black leather is usually some form of brown which has been stained. Consequently, you tend to get some of the original colour peeping through as general wear.
I've painted one or two black leather items over the years. You'll find my method described in #15 in the following post:-

It’s been awhile, but I’ve finally finished this great figure. Will do some touch up on the base. I had some trouble attaching the cape and getting the figure on the base. I’ve had to take on a 2nd job several nights during the week to make ends meet since I last posted my progress. My next model that I’m working on will be Celestial Messenger by Aradia Miniatures.
