Found this very clever youtube video. The author has painstakingly matched frames from Geoffrey Malins' famous Somme video to shots he has taken of the same area and has overlayed it. If you have watched the Malins film, this will really put some of his shots in context I think.

Clearly some remarkable research, planning and no little preparation has gone into this so hats off to the team who produced it (y)

Really interesting, im doing my first battle field tour of europe this summer somethings always come along but now ive more free time, cant wait, great tube =) Mick
 
as a military modeller I sometimes wonder why I paint when I watch films and news footage of the first world war ,also my very recent visit to ingolstadt and the museum in Reduit tilly and it's blown up pictures of what things were really like is so sobering ,you have got to think how the hell did it come to this and again 20 years later .

We should never forget the sacrifice of a whole generation on all sides
