Brother Lou, et'all...
I couldn't agree with you all more!

There is something very geniune about the charactor of the figurist who openly shares his/her passion with others, because the true artist knows his/her legacy is in the eyes of those who are inspired by their work...

The other trait that seperates the true artist from the opportunist is humility...because a humble spirit sees the reward in giving and the tradegy of self actualizing and conciet.

The brotherhood we all have built here at the planet is something very special, something that we can't allow the opportunists to tarnish or take away from us; afterall, aren't we all interested in leaving behind a little of ourself in those who mean the most to us?

Excellent thread Lou...thanks my brother for starting it.

All the best

Patrick

Patrick,

Who are "the opportunists (trying) to tarnish or take away from us"? Where'd that come from!? Hope we aren't drifting into conspiracy therory mode!

Bill

Many of the opportunists that I can think of are the dealers that many of us have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with and are still waiting for our order. It seems these dealers can continue this practice for years before it catches up with them in the end. A few come to mind but I don't think I need to mention them as most of us know who they are. Chuck has a list posted on his website that name a few.

Bill,
No conspiracy therory here at all.

Guy has given a good example of an opportunist, however in my world the opportunist I am referring to someone who lacks the ability to recognize the value of humility and takes advantage of a situation for personal gain...simple as that.

Does that clarify the point?

Patrick

Well, those sure sound like bad guys, whoever they are. I guess that kinda-sorta clarifies it...

Bill

Lou - nobody could've said it better than you. Thank you for giving me, as well as everybody here, food for thought. What makes someone a "master" isn't only their painting/sculpting skills, but their willingness to share with others - to give so little in return so we can all gain so much. And what is it that's "given"? Knowledge. A simple answer to someone's inquiry without any ulterior motives.

I guess I'm not adding anything new here, but I would like to say "thank you" to everybody who takes the time to share their knowledge and ask for so little - if anything - in return.

I also second Roger's observation: Lou must be added to that "master" list. If I may, I'd throw in Alan Ball as well. You could use the company

Alan,
Anytime, Ringo! Anytime :) Your humility humbles even the worst of us ;) I do owe you an apology for not including your wonderful wife, Marion.

To ALL the GREAT people on the "planet",a BIG THANK YOU for making this place such a wonderful area to visit and learn (I know that I personally have benefitted A LOT !). Cheers and a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year to all ! Like Guy said,I hope to meet most of you chaps at Boston next year.
Kenneth
