Hello Gents
Who makes the thinnest primer spray?
I used to use Tamiya's Surface Primer "Fine" in light grey.
But it's hard to find this in US these days...
I don't like the regular Tamiya's Surface Primer because
it gives rough texture...
Hi Taesung, I don't know about thinnest but a lot of commercial spraycan primers are fine for minis. I used an automotive primer on the Hornet fig in this thread: http://www.planetfigure.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5548
so you can see a good one won't obscure detail.
I warm the can before use (reduces viscosity and increases pressure, both of which improve the spray) but at your temps you might just need to leave the can outdoors for a short while before using it
For spray primer, I have been using the Floquil Model RR Gray Figure primer (they have white, too). To me at least, it sprays the finest mist. Again, for me, much more so than the Tamiya or auto primers. Like Enion, I warm for 20 minutes in water prior to spraying. It does help.
If you want thin, try an airbrush. That is more controllable, IMO.
Thanks for info, gents.
I only tried 3 Tamiya primers so far.
Tamiya Surface Primer: dark grey (flat)
Tamiya Surface Primer Fine: light grey (flat)
Tamiya Surface Primer Fine: white (not so flat)
I use white putty so I need grey primer to see
whether the master is sprayed properly or not...
The only problem with Tamiya primers at the moment
is its availability in US. Ther has been some sort of
trouble importing fine primers bacuae of the labels, I heard.
I tried to look for Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1200 with no luck. ;(
Have you tryed the Citadel's one? More than one modeller use this primer with good results, as they say. I still prefer the Tamiya or even the white from humbrol with airbrush.
Bye
I've been using Floquil's gray and/or white since the 70's and have never had a problem. Mr. Hobby makes Mr. Resin and it's just as good but, Mr. Metal is weird... it's CLEAR!? It was very surprising when I first used it because ALL of the writing on the can is Japanese so, surprise! Thought I'd been ripped off. Haven't tried painting over it yet, I've primed a flat with it so I'll let you know.

Taesung,
I personally found the Citadel line to work the best for me when it comes to primers. After experimenting with about 6 different kinds I tried theirs and now stick to it .
I use either SkullWhite or Chaos Black by Warhammer/Citadel and shake real well before use
Cheers,
A.
