Hideliho Figureteers!

Im painging the Pegaso 54mm Standard bearer as Thomas Strickland at Agincourt.
Arms: Sable, three escallops argent.

But is this worn only on the front of the blazon or also on the back?

Cheers

Hi Janne, arms would generally have been applied to both front and back of a surcoat or jupon, but if the jupon ties closed at the back that could interrupt the design so it might be front only.

I wouldn't sweat that too much; because heraldry's primary role in the field was one of identification it would be important for it to be applied both front and back, but I very much doubt this would have been universal since some surcoats didn't sport the bearer's arms at all.
