Here is another I recently finished. This is the Thunderbird Miniatures Buffalo Soldier bust sculpted by the incredibly talented Mike Good! Mark over at Thunderbird sent me this for box art and did a PERFECT job of casting this beauty up. It is cast in 6 flawless resin pieces (hat, brim, head, pipe, one piece of scarf and the torso). I can't say enough good things about this sculpt, and how it simply came to life as I painted it. I'm not sure if it was because I was having so much fun, or if it was the flawless sculpt and casting, but this piece just fell together for me! Painted in oils over acrylic base as per usual. The real challenge for me on this one was mixing divergent browns for all the different surfaces. I also spent some time trying to get a good look of "sweat" and wear to his hat, particularly around the inside where the hat band is. The only other small painted bit I added was to add a little simulated "texture" on the inside of the buffalo hide jacket to simulate the look of the wrinkled skin there. Simply an outstanding piece. I'll be quiet now so you can enjoy the images. Contact Mark over at Thunderbird and treat yourself to one of these, you will NOT regret it! Thanks for looking!

Beautiful job...top notch. Great controlled blending of tones.
Great sculpt...I wonder if Mike Good was listening to Bob Marley while working on this?

It was great seeing this in person this weekend Jay. I did pick one up from Mark and look forward to splashing it with paint. Good talking to you and seeing your wonderful work at Tulsa!

I am glad I got to see this since I missed the show, Jay. Beauty beauty beauty and kudos to Mark for his casting job. Top it off with Senor Bonehead as sculptor and what a talented and winning team. Thanks, guys!
