Hello everyone,

I just want to present one of my latest figure. A slight conversion from an older Latorre figure. Any comments are highly appreciated.

Great work. One of my favorite subjects. Nice job on the trousers, did you use acrylics or oils? Very good groundwork, really makes the piece look like it's in a natural setting. Would you be willing to comment on how you did the base and groundwork?

Mark,

What a really nice figure. I think I saw a picture of it in some magazine. I would love to know how you painted the blue on the jacket.

Hello Mark,

wonderful figure!

Very nice tonality overall (on the first pic, he looks like standing in a nice low evening sunshine), and very good groundwork indeed. I only don't like how the canteen is hanging on its strap (the weight of the canteen would pull the strap strait), but this is only minor.

I painted this one myself some years ago (my wife, then girlfriend, bought it for me at Ingolstadt! :) ). It is really a pleasure to paint, and not seen too often on the competition tables as the other Latorres. Great idea for the conversion, and nice different pattern you used for the trousers, which all makes it even more original.

Joe, it has been at Euromilitaire, and has a picture in the Military Modelling Euromilitaire special issue.

Looking forward to seeing more beauties Mark! Are you coming to AMSS in Antwerp in March by the way?

Best wishes,

Marijn

Hello Mark,

All i can say is that another great painter has joined the Planet.
Amazing paint job, and yes i like it very much.

Keep posting some off your other work.

Marc

Fantastic painting job Mark. I really like the flesh tones. The groundwork is another great point that gives an awesome overall result. Keep up the good work.

The more I look at the figures on this website, the more I start 'seeing' them--like the subtle tones, the blending, etc. This figure's subtle hues give a softness that brings across that the guy has been out in the field a bit, but not completely roughed up yet. I cannot believe you got this effect with enamels! I am impressed. When I first started out here (not that long ago actually) I thought the only proper way to paint a figure was enamels, but then I was used to painting 1:35 scale! But I thought acrylics would be easier. Ha! was I wrong! And my enamels never looked this good!
Excellent work, a beautiful figure.

well what o say thats a super nice painted figure that looks more than a great painters painting than a figure. all blendings and colour choices are super and the flag painting is so nice. Base strikes also !!!!
Super work

Hello Robert, Costas and Wong,

thank you very much for your kind words. Getting this kind of feedback is what keeps me trying to improve makes the fun of the hobby :)

Linda, you are completely right in that some effects are quite difficult to achieve with Humbrol. I needed many unsuccessful attempts until it worked for me and I still have problems myself with large, plain surfaces. I learned the technique from articles exclusively (and trial and error). Probably acrylics are a lot of easier (I use it from time to time), but most often it just doesn't work for me. Just find a working-style you like, the medium is not that important.

Best regards,

Mark
