Einion man, are you coming from Mars too (like me and some few people) ? Seeing recent reactions to ironical posts, I was seriously thinking about removing the 'ultimate' tool post. You know, I appreciate your thread.
About the tools you point out, and all the related stuff like from Pfeil, they seems to be a must when doing carvings like the one you can see on the below picture.
That picture comes from the #10 (jul '04) issue of the Figure International magazine (the spanish version). There is an article about the work of Laruccia and is really impressive to see what can be achieved with the right tool (and the right hand...).
I know this is not the appropiate thread, but I really would like to see something more about the techniques used by other people.
On the same magazine (the issue #12, dec '04) there is an article by Carlos Andrea, showing the (very peculiar) way used to sculpt the Red Baron 54mm figure. While sculpting, he jumps from one element of the figure to another, apparently unrelated, but achieving a great result about proportions.
A strange way to obtain a balanced figure, but the final result speaks by itself.
Just wondering about different techniques, there are a lot of people using a mannequin, while others just dont care about it.
